What modifications do you guys have?

Hey Rx8club members, I haven't been such an active user for this forum and used it mostly on getting information about my Rx-8 and wanted to change that. I wanted to start a little thread on just listing your modifications and hopefully people who plan on buying something of the same mod that someone has and owns could give some insight on how they like it or not. I've had a couple questions myself since I am changing my setup to be more competitive for track use.

This is awesome guys! Now two questions on my end, i know these debates have been done on other threads but I feel like my thoughts haven't been fully answered or settled on a decision. First off, I'm picking up a set of 18x10 +38 Black Edition Rpf1's and am debating between:
-275/35/18 Dunlop Direzza ZII's and
-275/35/18 BFGoodrich G-Force Rivals

Second question:

KW Varient V3 Coilovers
Or
Tein Mono Flex Coilovers

My thought on the coils were that People really get the KWV3's but the spring rate is somewhat higher on the tein mono flex (being F559 R392 lbs/in) and Im wondering why people dont track the tein mono's as much as I want to see?

Keep in mind my Rx-8 is strictly a AutoX and soon to be track ***** lol

The first real set of tires I ever tracked the car on were Dunlop Star Specs (before they got revised into the ZII) and I actually thought they were awesome. I've never tried a BFG Rival because using a street tire would be like shooting myself in the foot at this point but I've also heard a lot of great things about them. Either way you'll probably like both of those tires and they are both great for learning on.

As far as a track oriented coilover, the KW V3 has way too low of spring rates and even if you do get stiffer springs, finding someone to revalve them is going to be a problem. Haven't really seen mono flexes out on the track at all. As far as "track only" coilover setups go, you're going to get into spending some pretty decent cash to get ones with stiff spring rates and properly valved.

The only out of the box set that I would suggest are these:
Ohlins FULL RACE DFV COILOVERS 13KG Front, 8kg Rear for RX8

The rest of the good options will be working with the provider of said coilovers to get the rates and valving you want, or just ordering shocks by themselves and finding springs.

Here is an option that is much more affordable and from a guy that REALLY knows his stuff when it comes to suspension. Everyone that I see at the track that has a setup from FCM loves it, never heard a bad thing about their product. It uses custom valved bilsteins with matching springs of your choosing. They are also non-adjustable so once they are in, you just drive them which I kind of like. I mess around with settings on my car far too much lol.

Fat Cat Motorsports - Miata 06+ / RX-8 04+ custom monotube coil-over assembly

All the other companies you will be ordering just the shock and then getting yourself springs, like AST and Moton.

Oh and one more budget oriented option that I've been looking into is Fortune Auto. You get to pick the springs and they will valve the shocks and send you a shock dyno for each unit with the package as well. A couple guys have them at the track and like them.

I've got KW V3's and Hotchkis sway bars on my car and I thought it handled very nicely at the track with 255/40/17 NT-01's on 17x9's, never feeling too soft to me (I've been going to the track for over 10 years now). The ride is still quite reasonable on the street. To me it felt like a pretty good compromize and I would definitely recomend them for a street/track car.

Most people's "track cars" are used >90% of the time on the street, so going too stiff can be a real mistake. I probably went a little too stiff with my old RX7 and that was with rates on the soft end of what was available (7kg/mm front, 5 kg/mm rear). The RX8 has good suspension geometry, so it doesn't need sky high rates like strut cars to keep from loosing too much camber in roll.

Not sure why it would be a huge secret, most members have all this information available in there build threads anyways. It's not like we all have huge top secret proprietary enhancements going on

Yeah, I hear you man.
I wasn't really thinking of "secret" but I was thinking and you hit it, was most of these people of their own build threads why post again here?

LOL and you know Carbon oh the debauchery that ensues typically of threads like this ...

And this thread hasn't ... it's actually moving along not to bad at all, that's what surprised me.
So I'll bow out now.
Cheers man

BTW I've enjoyed your build thread.

Understandable, the amount of rampant shenanigans thats been posted lately in new threads is blasphemous. Hoping for a silver lining here, more because I like the idea of siphoning threw one thread as opposed to searching dozens of build threads

Hoping to get back to my build soon, first order of business if a full disassembly
Appreciate the support!

I appreciate all of your guy's support in pushing this thread in the right direction! I'm sure all of us here has had a fair share of flaming, unanswered questions, extensive and time consuming research, and what not...but my initial idea for creating this thread, and hoping that new threads will be created in support of this similar idea, is to cut the burden for people and make this forum less of a "wikipedia" and more of a "help out other members with more organized research methods". I think this is turning out pretty well. Thanks Rx8club members!

Thanks for the advise man, I actually am changing my mind and looking into getting something from Fat Cat Motorsports. I wouldn't really mind stiff ride quality since my intentions for my rx8 are now going to be strictly for race use. Quality input into your advice, I really appreciate it. I actually just picked up a set of Black Enkei Rpf1's in 18x10 +38 and now planning to get ZII's in 275/40. Can't wait for race season to start haha.
