which way should i go..hmm

driven to perform is coming up this june, was thinking about N/A tuning it, intake, grounding race pipes etc and other carbon stuff on the outside for the show, calculated to around 4000 dollars, talked to my dad about it, he said I might as well go turbo since im going to use 4000 bux, what do you guys think? and is $4000 even enough to get a turbo in the 8? thanks guys

turborx8 01-11-2008 01:16 AM

I agree with your dad but $4k is not enough to do it properly. There are so many added costs involved that people dont ever think about. (gauges, blow-off valve, clutch/flywheel, tuning etc..)

You could possibly afford it by getting a used greddy turbo kit.

paulmasoner 01-11-2008 01:19 AM

i wouldnt start messing with a turbo unless you had $6,000 to play with at least

this is NOT a recipe for a build, at all... but look at my thread concerning a project just to get an idea of possible costs incurred... check first and last posts by me for updates

The AEM version sells for $265 brand new on ebay.

Dont expect to find it much cheaper unless you buy a used one.

For around 6K you can have a drop in supercharger that requires none of the addons a turbo does.

Nitrous. For about a $1000 you can get a nice 55 shot Zex kit. Do have to pay for the refills, but everytime you go to the track you can refilll it and with $4000 you are not close to the money needed for a turbo job.

Rx8-13b 01-12-2008 02:28 AM

thought about nitrous before, always have this thing that i think that it will blow my engine somehow...hmm...was thinking about improving drivetrain and flow to the car to utilize the 232 hp that it has and have a realli good handling car with substantial hp, what do u guys think?

A good nitrous setup won't blow your engine anymore than a good turbo/SC setup (and consequently bad ones will blow your engine the same). Not sure what you mean by drivetrain & flow ? In terms of clutch or transmission the RX8 stock setup is just fine. If your are talking about suspension setup, then yes, it is probably the best thing you can do to the car.

This isnt what you want to hear but my advice is to just keep building your savings man. N/A tuning would be a waste IMO. I would wait and keep building up savings. There will always be a time when someone decides they want to revert back to NA or have already purchased SC/TC and decide they wanna sell it instead of installing it. Then you have the piece of mind and the bargaining power of knowing you have 4-6k sitting in the bank. People run into desperate times thats when you can profit from a great deal. KEEP SAVING. FI and 8 is still pretty young and you could benefit greatly from waiting just bit longer.

^^^thats the resoan y i went nitrous...CHEAP

Suspension first, lightweight wheels and tires, and then nitrous. Also look into lightening up your car a lil. 200 lbs weight savings is possible in the rx8 and will make a difference.

Rx8-13b 01-15-2008 01:26 AM

got tein s tech springs, a carbon wing and alot of audio stuff, so i guess my car is pretty heavy, but i do haf blitz type 03 wheels on, which i think are pretty light, the wheelare 18x9 in front and 18x10 in the back 3 piece wheels. anybody know more about them? my dad got them for me and he didn't tell me much about them
