Waste of money?

Would it be a waste of money to buy a CAI and pulleys if I'm eventually going to buy a supercharger? Are these parts already included in a SC kit? I don't know much about super or turbo chargers so any advice would help.

Thanks

Matt

depends on the kit, but usually the FI kit comes with it's own intake.

If you're serious about buying one, then yes, but only on the CAI. With the pulleys though, you'd need to find a serpentine belt of the correct length. The belts that come in the kits are configured for use with the stock pulley.

You could always buy the CAI and pulleys then sell them once you get your charger. People on the boards are always willing to buy that kind of stuff.

given the low returns from CIA, it's not worth it if you're upgrading to FI later.

And the debate on how worthless pullies are. I would say save your money for the FI. Get a catback exhaust (for better sound) and/or hi-flow cat as you can use it with either turbo ora supercharger.

pick exhaust components carefully if you're doing a SC. With a turbo the sounds are muffled down quite a bit, so you can go with really loud stuff and be okay.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I might just save my money for something else if the power numbers arent that much better. I have SR Motorsports cat and greddy SP2 exhaust. I thought FI makes it sound louder?

With a turbo you're adding what amounts to fan blades at the exit point of the exhaust from the engine. That makes it quite a bit quieter.

I've posted these before, but so you can see what I mean -

here's my car NA with borla and catless midpipe:

Same exhaust setup, but with a turbo:

If you've got some money burning a hole in your pocket and you really want to hold out for a SC, then you might consider spending it on supporting mods for the SC. Things like radiator upgrade, clutch upgrade, gauges, WB...

Thanks again. By the Way, that BOV sounds sick.

I will say yes.....If you want a mod that will give you real power gains and work with a super charger...then you want a high flow cat or midpipe.

If you are upgrading the clutch for a FI, I suggest a lightweight flywheel. It is one upgrade that will help acceleration immediately. Even before you go FI.

I vote supporting mods:

radiator, oil cooler, gauges

Wider wheels/tires
better dampers/springs

hfc or midpipe, lightened flywheel, short shifter are excellent BPU's....
