Vortech Supercharger?
 

Well I just visited my local Ultimate Driver, and i asked if they had heard of any FI rummors for the 8 while my buddy got $900 worth of parts for his GSX. The main man there, Ira, let me in on a compleated supercharger from Vortech Superchargers... this kit is "curently being tested as they ran into a problem with... um something about too much boost"? I checked their website and no sighn of any plans for a sc in the 8 yet.

I just e-mailed them to confrim if I heard right.... Has any1 heard anything about this new rummor?

I know one of my friends was down at Raceway Park in Jersey about 2 months ago and swore he saw an RX8 with a Vortec S/C on it. About 8psi is what he said the guy told him he was running. That was the extent of the info abou it. I called Vortec the very next day and of course they said nothing of the sort was heard of from them.

Vortec, Paxton, Powerdyne, and other types of contrifugal superchargers are just about the worst way to go about supercharging on the rotary. They only produce boost based on rpm. If you think your engine is peaky now, wait until one of those units is installed. If they are seeing a max of 8 psi that is only at redline. At 4000 rpm they are probably only seeing about 3 psi. That's nothing and certainly not very fun as a street car. A better supercharger option is a positive displacement type such as a roots or preferably a twin screw. This will give you 8 psi fairly early in the powerband and keep it there. At the same boost level, the positive displacement equipped car will absolutely outrun the centrifugal supercharged car. It wouldn't even be a contest.

Yeah I don't think I would S/C my 8. Maybe, but what I think I'm going to do is have it ported/polished get a lighter flywheel, maybe some pullies, and I have my eye on that Knightsports header for now, since it looks like the best one out so far... well, according to the threads you, (Rotarygod), had posted. Then maybe I'll get the S/C from Pettit just to be on the safer side with the amount of power the engine will receive, realiability wise. If you have an opinion on the above mods I plan to do, please let me know R.G. you opinion counts. Haven't heard too much about the Knightsport header, but how is it different than the other header designs right now ? Care to share any info ? I know one poster who dropped about $1200 on the RE AMemiya setup got all of 1 hp from his unit. Also Racing Beat has been testing numerous header designs and has gotten a max 4 hp out of it. They said it doesn't justify the cost (I'm thinking probably around $800) for the part. In this case I would (like you) look at the Petit SC for a legit (and hopefully reliable) $5000 for 50 hp, or the SSR Turbo (but not for $8000-$10000). I can see how the centrifugal units might not be the best units for this car, as a close example the Vortech & Comptech (Paxton) units on the S2000 (9000 RPM redline on 01'-03's) really only make substantial power gains from about 6000 RPM on up. Do you want 50 hp across the rev range or 80-100 hp at the top end ?

When I was at Racing Beat last month, they had 2 prototype header designs for the RX-8. I held both of them and have pictures. One of them had the standard 3 pipe setup. The other had divided the center pipe so that there were 4 pipes that collected together. Neither of them made any more power than the other. the peak was about 4-5 hp at the top end. Not enough to feel and definitely not enough to justify paying anything for. I'm not sure how knightsport tested theirs but I am actually a sceptic right now whereas I was excited about it when I first saw it. what changed my mind was the 4 pipe header at Racing Beat not making any more power. There are still other designs out there to try and I have a few that I'd like to see done. Right now I'm just going to say wait until others emerge. I'm not sure you'll get your money's worth right now.

man... this wait, these rummors are killing me. i still havent heard back from them yet. im so sick of this rummor here rummor there, least Richard Paul looks like he's on the way to a good model.

The ports are far to limiting. Give me a few hours with the die and those headers will make all the difference in the world. ;)
