Voodoo Shift Knob + AFE Shifter (Richard Paul shifter)

I just received my voodoo magnum spun aluminum knob today and installed it on my AFE shifter...

WOW. This is absolutely the BEST shifting car I've ever driven. Period. The knob shortens the throw of even the AFE shifter. I must say the 1-2 is delightful now. 2-3 is even better. The engagement feel cannot be described with words. Its as positive as it could possibly be.

The knob is great holding your hand in any position you can think of... using over hand throws with 2-3 and 4-5 OR backhand throws OR pistol grip orientation throws... whatever technique you use to shift... this knob feels perfect.

If any of you have the AFE shifter and want to improve it even more... go order up a Voodoo magnum knob...

You mongrel! I have wanted to do this for so long...I just haven't decided on the size or metal. Did you go pearl? Get a camera fergawdsake!!!

Longhornxtreme 07-20-2005 12:13 AM

I have a camera... I was just too lazy to take any pics...

I got the spun aluminum magnum one... I don't think the magnum is large at all... in fact I'm really glad I got the magnum and not a smaller one... It matches the interior quite nicely as well....

Polished, or machined?

Longhornxtreme 07-20-2005 01:21 AM

its machined... I think the polished one would show hand oils too much... the machined one looks damn near stock with the interior trim of my white 8 sport pkg. I'll take some pics tomorrow if I get around to it... I'm just pretty busy with work lately...

Some things are bigger than Texas. Australia is one of those things. Don't make me come up there. Upload the pics, Tex....... ;)

Does the voodoo knob have a nylon insert to screw into?

No, mate. Not according to the installation instructions on their website anyway.

It's a good point though...the RP SnickShifter doesn't have a rubber isolator to reduce gearbox heat transfer to the knob. A aluminium or titanium knob might get a bit hot in summer, just through gearbox heat......if the knob doesn't have a nylon insert.

How's the weather up there ATM, Tex? :)

Longhornxtreme 07-20-2005 10:21 AM

Its about 95 deg F up here in the shade... i forget what that is in C. HOLD YOUR HORSES PEOPLE! I will take some pictures after work today! :)

No it does not have a thread insert... but its been heat cycling for two days and I can still loosen the knob after it was seriously twisted down. I'd think Aluminum is softer than titanium or so... I'm not too worried about it siezing.

RedSheDevil 07-20-2005 10:23 AM

This thread is worthless without photos...... Pretty please longhorn????

Longhornxtreme 07-20-2005 10:26 AM

I'd take some pictures BUT I'm sitting in class as of this moment and the car is a good 15 minute walk in the Texas heat away. And being the idiot I am, I'm not wearing shorts right now.

There will be pics later tonight... just relax :)

ill have to look into getting the shifter, i have the black texured voodoo knob (bought it for the miata, now its on the 8) and I love it, even with the stock shifter.

epitrochoid 07-20-2005 12:01 PM

be careful with that knob...i have a titanium knob with no insert, and now it's stuck on my nice AFE shifter. i'll have to cut it to get it off, thus ruining a $250 shifter and a $130 shift knob.

Fergawdsakes yerself, don't you have a custom one off winning blue aluminum knob with a rotor gearset engraved in it?

If you don't then you better call Hymee or send the "boys" over to see him. ;)

Richard Paul 07-20-2005 05:20 PM

Has anyone ever heard of antisize. Getting it off try (shit I always forget the name) You know the stinky stuff, "Krylon"?? I'll go look later.

Krol???
Forgot to look when I was in the shop.

olddragger 07-20-2005 06:11 PM

I got the same knob with a stock shifter and just the knob alone shortens the sfit a little. Another plus-- its heavier so that makes 3/4 more easily identifiable because when the spring activates coming out of 5/6 or even 1/2 the shifter falls right into the 3/4 lineup. The one bad thing about it is that it does warm up in the summer and it does get cold in the winter -- but hell that just gives the car a little more personally!
I really like it. Best $30 mod I have ever did. Also for guys get the Magnum size.
