Upgrades?
I've had my completely stock RX-8 for a few months now and have had it in one open road event. I was in the 100MPH class which required speeds from 110 to 115. In practice though I ran up to my tech speed of 120. At 6000 feet elevation in 100 degree hit I started to lose accelleration response at 120. I have moved up in class and will probably need to run up to 120. My questions are: Does this sound typical considering the conditions? And, what are the first upgrades I should be looking at?

we dontknow what car you have

2004 RX-8 6 speed

1.3Litre

if you are going to be running at that speed alot i would suggest a heavier oil than the 5w20 stock spec. also change tranny and diff lubes.

Hi zoom. Can you explain why that is? I'm interested in learning the effects of oil on temps the engine runs at. Thx

sorry. |
The next run in a couple of weeks will have a 83 mile leg. My temp gauge was pretty solid but, I have been looking for an oil temp gauge since I don't know what that temperture was. Also my cooling fans did not run for very long after a 28 minute run. What about the diff lubes, what is in there stock?

Go for the RB REVi with the ram air duct to get cooler outside air. For you radiator maybe go back and fill it with a higher percentage of radiator fluid & some of the water wetter, DEI radiator additive stuff. My friend runs it in his stock car racing, said on average it gives them 10 degrees better performance. Should help your long distance racing performance.
I have the Royal Purple transmission gear oil & it has really helped shifting. |
