Update from pettit racing

In one of my earlier posts I said that candy would not let cam tear apart their rx8 till he got them another one. Well now they have the next best thing. They just recieved a fresh renesis from mazda to play around with. It's in the process of being torn down and studdied now. I'll post more updates when I get them.

XDEEDUBBX 12-19-2003 02:32 AM

okay hurry up...

XeRo 12-19-2003 08:28 AM

damn...i want one...extra Renesis...that is....

Red Devil 12-19-2003 09:41 AM

That's good to hear. I've been on their site every once in a while, and was wondering when they'd make any announcements of their intentions with the 8.

pp13bnos 12-20-2003 10:23 AM

Good to hear. Keep us updated. CJ

well I went to pettit today. Their supercharger kit is progressing nicely. I actually held the blower in my hands, so it can't be too much longer.

They have a TON of other stuff in the works. The're designing a body kit....suspension components....plus the engine is getting worked over. They seem to be really excited about that part.

The most interesting news I got from them???

They said they cracked the ECU. I don't know if they just meant that they have a piggyback unit like canzoomers in the works, or if the've actually figured out a way to re-flash the ECU. Either way I might be going back sometime in the next week or 2 to find out. And I'll probably be one of the first in line. :D:D:D

Stay tuned........

BTW if you're wondering why this stuff is taking so long, when I was there they had about 12 cars they were working on, and they get a lot of the "here's my car and 10,000-30,000 dollars" kind of jobs. So if there's any delay, it's cause the're so damn busy.:D

pp13bnos 01-16-2004 08:59 AM

Very cool. I've been down the turbo road manyatime...maybe its time to go down the supercharger road. :) CJ

mikeb 01-16-2004 05:12 PM

wow
this just made my day
I cant wait to see more

Jeff_pap31s 01-16-2004 05:44 PM

The supercharger just may be the road to follow on this 1.

pp13bnos 01-16-2004 07:54 PM

The only thing I ask for is that the supercharger keep the linear powerband, and not run out of steam way up in the rpms. (8000+). That would be nice huh? CJ

Where is Pettit Racing located? I heard some very good things about them as well!

SDFLY 01-17-2004 12:29 AM

Thanks for the update! The more choices the better!

The're located in palm beach county. In the city of lake park, FL. About 15 minutes (or less depending on traffic) from my house. Take I-95 to Northlake Blvd. Northlake east to old dixie highway (you'll see a K-Mart, burger king, Hess station, and a Ford dealership at the intersection). Go north on old dixie about 1/4 mile. You'll see a tire kingdom on your right hand side. The're right there by the tire kingdom. Just look for all of the RX7's. You can't miss it. ;)

JimW 01-19-2004 07:52 PM

Thanks Paradigm, I have a sister that lives in Wellington. I might stop by.

paradigm 01-20-2004 12:37 AM

wellington's not too far from me. shoot me a PM when you're going to be in the area. :)

JimW 01-20-2004 10:00 PM

10-4, probably this week, I won't have the 8 though, I have to use the wifey's truck to give sis my old wall unit.

John Corbitt 01-20-2004 10:18 PM

I have known Cam at Pettit Racing for a long time. He was amazing with the third gen RX-7. I can only imagine what he will be doing with the RX-8. It will only be a mater of time before he builds a tripple rotor renisis RX-8 I am guessing.

Red Devil 01-21-2004 11:13 AM

A 3 rotor renesis would be fantastic. I would much rather go with that in NA form than do FI.

zerobanger 01-21-2004 06:07 PM

Red,

How would a 3 rotor renesis be possible? I thought the side ports are what made a renesis a renesis. how can you have a 3 rotor with side ports?

rotarygod 01-21-2004 08:07 PM

If you can custom machine/ forge a new 3 rotor center housing with side ports you could do it. Doesn't sound easy or economical to me.

I had to read your post twice to fully understand it, and then it dawned on me. If its side port you can't have rotors on both sides, you can't port to another rotor! End ports no problem, but side ports change everything. My best guess is to have a null chamber in between, which begs the question of instead of 3 rotors, why not go to 4? Mazda won the 95 Lemans with a 3 rotor and the New Jersey shop (don't remember their name) just auctioned off a 3-rotor on ebay for 73k, how did they build theirs?

paradigm 01-22-2004 12:13 AM

they didn't use a 3 rotor "renesis". They used a standard 20B out of the cosmo. The same one the rx7 guys use.

Red Devil 01-22-2004 09:50 AM

Didn't take the thought that far along the lines of port implications and meeting the housings together. Taking that into thought, however, I would revert to some of my previous posts where I've expressed more of an interest in a 1.6 version of the 2 rotor or of something to that effect.

The thought of a 3 rotors gas mileage is bad enough, a 4 rotor would be horrendous, and may not fit in the 8's engine bay?

I would expect someone, if not Mazda, to at some point to create a center housing similar to what Rotarygod referred to above.

Um, nobody here said they did. We were talking about a "what if" or "how to" type of thing when it comes to a 3 rotor Renesis.

Was refering to this post.

As far as 4 rotors are concerned, search google for the "scoot 4 rotor" rx7. You should find plenty of pics and videos of it running.

And I re-hijacking my thread back. So unless it's a question related to the original title of the thread.......

ok. new update.

The body kit they have is similar to the mazdaspeed kit. The fitment on the front bumper is very good. The other parts haven't gone on their car yet.

For the ECU the're working on a "black box", and the're also going to give the greddy e-manage a shot.

The guy I talked to said that when they modified their car they got next to no aditional power out of it. According to them the ECU is compensating for the extra airflow by adding fuel and/or pulling timing, just like the Lancer EVO. It's also doing this on the dyno even if the rear ABS sensors are pulled. Instead of "Hey. The rear wheels are spinning, but the fronts aren't. I'll add fuel and pull timing." It's "Holy S^*&, he's revving the hell out of the engine when the car's not moving. I'll add fuel and pull timing!" This is why the dyno numbers seem way too low. The "black box" I refered to above is something the're playing with to help unlock the real potential in the mods for the car.

THe most interesting thing they told me today is that mazda is sending them a car to heavily modify, and then it will be sold through mazda dealerships with an approximately $10,000 markup. Similar in idea to their Banzai RX7's.

Umm......that's about it really. Their supercharger is kinda on hold till they get the ECU under control, but the've got all the plumbing done pretty much.

Thank you. That is all. ;)

Jeff_pap31s 01-31-2004 02:24 AM

Sounds great. I can't wait :)

Moon Assad 05-19-2006 01:34 AM

3 rotor renisis

I was looking at the outer housing, front and back. If done rite they could be mated at the same clearence of the 3 rotor housing with the 20b crank. Any critisism or ideas would help. Ive been talking with Cam about it, many projects and not enough time. Im looking for extra parts to start, but Im not promissing anything to the public yet. IF YOU BUILD THEY WILL COME

Fanman 05-19-2006 02:37 AM

Their trying the Greddy E-Manage...Good god, did they not learn anything for our pain.

I remember seeing their car 2 years ago here for Sevenstock. Seemed to drive OK then, I would hope they have gotten the ECU issues all worked out by now. Oh well, rather them get it right, then getting it out fast.

mysql101 05-19-2006 09:08 AM

fanman, check the dates on this thread. Moon Assad posted on a thread over 2 years old.

They're currently looking on doing the kit with the interceptor-x.
