Universal Exhaust tips

3 Attachment(s)
So i had a pair of exhaust burned tips that i was gonna install on my old car before i blew the engine and i had forgotten bout them till i opened a box in my garage and there they were. I really didnt like how the oem exhaust sounded on my 8 but i aint got the money to buy the greddy SE exhaust that i want so i decide to go ahead and install them. I ve seen some 8s around here with the same style of tips but they looked too huge and mine arent that big....i actually like it....it has a nice deep tone to it and sounds good....here are some pics , let me know what you guys think

did u take off the oem muffler?

Third_eye912 03-12-2009 01:03 PM

Yeah I pretty much had to, also made a custom Y piping to attach the mufflers

thawk97 03-12-2009 01:11 PM

If by shrouds you mean the plastic covers, i had to cut them to be able to fit the mufflers, i left a nice gap between the plastic and the muffler so it wouldn't touch and prevent melting

yeah they are kinda sideways, i wanted them straight but then i saw the bends on the piping and since it wasn't mandrel bent it was gonna restrict the exhaust so i decided to try and keep as straight as i could

Looks kinda cool. How much can those be had for?

Third_eye912 03-12-2009 02:53 PM

If i remember correctly i paid like 90 bucks for the pair like a year ago and 80 bucks to be welded on

9krpmrx8 03-12-2009 02:59 PM

Cool.

Not too bad, really; I think the blue tip causes each to look a bit more expensive than if they were polished. Good job on doing your own thing!

Not too long I would suspect.

Not feelin' the sideways angled exhaust... reminds me of a civic

However I do love the color :)

You don't happen to have the dimensions of those mufflers do you? Also, a bottom pic would be great. i wonder if these would work?

those look... invisible?

9krpmrx8 03-12-2009 04:55 PM

Seems like all these mufflers are about the same length. Cheap though even for the higher quality muffled ones.

I have universal muffler on my gf's Mitsubishi Eclipse gen4.

Problem is the Ti tip fade after couple months.
The silencer rattles at low RPM. If take the silencer out, it is quite loud..
In quiet neighborhood, I could hear the car coming from two blocks away.
We still keep it out since rattling is so annoying.

Sound is good for something cost less than $100 installed, just too loud.

The setup sound better than my friend's $500 5Zigen cat-back for his Arcula DC5.
That's why I say it sounds ok.
Still, the sound quality does not even come close to my GReddy SP2.

Notice couple MPG increase over K&N drop-in filter alone.

Hope this help, even what we have is in piston engine, not rotary.

Same measurements as your except the length is 19" and my tips are angle cut

Third_eye912 03-13-2009 12:54 AM

Thanks for the compliment tiltmode43...
The mufflers arent that loud, my old cavy was soo loud my mom would hear me a couple blocks away and it was a singel exhaust...
this is only temporary until i save up enough money to get the Greddy SE exhaust that i want :naughty:
