umnitza/simota cf intake question
i am interested in possibly upgrading my k&n typhoon version 1 intake to either the k&n version 2, revi, or the umnitza/simota carbon fiber intake. I was wondering if the umnitza intake uses any of the stock rx-8 intake parts to install such as a screen, or the accordian style rubber tube like the revi and k&n version 2 do. I ask this because i no longer have the stock intake, only the typhoon version 1, and i need to know if i would need any of the stock parts before ordering the umnitza intake. i tried searching for this information but came up with nothing.

you will need the accordian style rubber tube that is all for stock parts no need for screens.

Thats the only place I could find that sells the Umnitza/Simota intake. I'm interested in this intake as well... |
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=8019125020 , only link I can find, its where I bought mine at last week. Looks like he is out of stock on it, becuase mine was delayed a week

the ram air wont connect right to the umnitza intake like it is supposed to. this intake does not connect to where the stock intake does. also I have heard of some stalling issues if you get rid of the stock intake duct, I cant remember the name of it at the moment. supposedly at high speeds if you push in the clutch and let it go to idle they sometimes stall out... I do not know if the same would happen if you replaced it with the RB Ram Air duct.

what's the HP increase on the umnitza intake?
I have it and id like to know my self. It cant be very much. Its a great sounding unit and i love it. ive had no problems at all. I recommend it for anyone who is interested. You wont be disappointed.
even if you want to buy an umnitza intake they are currently having issues with supply. I wait a couple weeks before anyone puts in any order.
well I have one on order and I just got in my Revi ram duct, will see soon if it works!
alright Dr. keep us posted...
i just ordered mine from the same guy as DrRockin, he said he is currently out of stock but he should be recieving more within 2 weeks. so hopefully he gets them in soon.
ive heard about the stalling problem that twinrotary was talking about, but i believe it only occured if you remove the vfad (variable fresh air duct). this problem was fixed by adding one screen from the stock intake in the filter. i dont think anyone has tried it yet with the ram duct yet, but it should work fine with no stalling issues, but i dont know. |
Hey zoom, didnt you have a deal to do a dyno with the intake. Did that ever happen?
nah he sold the two before he even put it on my car for a dyno. I'm not sure if he is still looking to do a dyno though seem like the intakes are selling anyways.
Yea, i guess so. Im curious tho. If any one does a dyno, post it up. I might do one myself but i never did one before the install.
Does anyone have proven confirmation if the RB Ram Air duct will/will not work with the umnitza CF intake? Please answer only if you know for sure, ive had tons of speculation already. thanks!
seem to be reports of it still not working period, I believe using screens on the MAF will solve the problem, sorry but specualtion is all you will get until the issues are confirmed to be resolved

Someone in the Asian forums reported a gain of .8HP, but he did a few modifications to improve the simota intake.
The K&N Version 2 needs the MAF Screen or at least in the Intsall instructions it tells you to add the stock MAF Screen. I believe the Simota intake uses the accrodian pipe. I really doubt how effective the RB Ram Air Duct would be with the Simota Intake, unless you seal it and connect it. TeamRX8 was planning on something like that. You might want to read up on sstricker's posting on the simota intake below because the intake caused horrible problems for him, twice. We can only speculate on the second time he had problems, but the second version was a revised version... https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-aftermarket-performance-modifications-23/umnitza-simota-intake-pics-82816/ |
DrRockin99 and rx8 250f, you guys might want to order it from umnitza instead because its cheaper.
