Typhoon Air Intake?
Anyone here use this Typhoon intake system? Worth the
$300? |
Lol no.
|
Not worth it. The only two intakes that are decent: AEM (Mazdaspeed) and the racing beat. Racing beat has a duct that feeds outside air. Everything else is an expensive noise maker. You will lose power, loose mpg, or both.
Most importantly: nothing will filter better than the stock paper filter. There are professional racing teams that use the stock intake and stock filter....because everything else is a noise maker. |
Even the Racing beat and AEM are expensive noise makers. Save your money for good tires or suspension goodies.

The only reason I'm even thinking about getting an aftermarket or Mazdaspeed intake is because of how much the radiator is blocked by the stock intake.

what the hell are you talking about? have you looked under the hood?
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...e7e056dd41.jpg I found a large black box which is the air intake/filter assembly. It seems to block the exit of the radiator which creates an area of hot stagnant air, which impedes the air flow of the radiator, which also reduces the efficiency of the radiator. I am aware that there is a tray on the bottom of the intake assembly. After having done more research, there seems to be a divided opinion on it's purpose. One was that it is there to help with airflow, and the other, to prevent the heat from affecting the intake too much. I feel that overall, the install of a proven intake such as the Mazdaspeed/AEM, along with the removal of that intake tray (and possibly creating a new one), would aid in cooling efficiency. That is what I'm talking about. |

Was quite happy to be proven wrong and learn. But instead, I get insulted lol.
Next time, instead of acting like a smart ass, use your expertise and knowledge to help other like myself. While I don't know much, I was quite willing to learn. Cheers. |

You are not wrong for asking. For the longest time, people here thought that the intake box undertray interfered with the fans' ability to pull air across the radiator. What "conventional wisdom" around here has to say about it these days, I do not know.
A modification of the intake and/or a battery relocation at the very least will be necessary though. Will be interesting to see the results! |

I have the AEM intake that I got from 4 wheel online. Was about to get the Takeda but I canceled it after hearing more good reviews about the AEM. I like the improved sound and response of my ride with this AEM.
