typhoon

i ordered a k&n typhoon intake from intensepower.com almost 2 and a half weeks ago and it still hasnt come in. Has anyone had any bad experiences with this website? They didnt even send me an email confirming the order so i have no idea how long it is suppose to take. I thinnk im going to call them today to see whats going on.

That sucks. I would definitely call them.

I have jsut ordered a GReddy SP2 Exhaust from them and they said that they were out of a lot of Rx-8 items. So shipping time + 2-4 weeks for out of stock items (it says this on their site). I called to check up with my item and they were very poilte and quick. Good luck man...

vivid rx-8

went for a drive with the vivid boyz today, they have both the K&N intake and greddy? exhaust. Their car is quicker then my stock setup. It is very noticable. check out vivid in the vendor forum. ask for mike, he give forum members discount over the web prices. they are good guys!

Sanguine_Dark 04-18-2004 08:20 PM

Pret,

He's got the B&B exhaust on his. I can vouch that mike at vivid is great to work with.

I believe that there is tuning "potential" with these cars, unlike others on this board. It is just harder to come by.

it came in saturday morning. I put it on that day and am very happy with the results. Love the sound.

I just installed mine last night. Do you notice any difference in performance? It seems as though mine has lost a noticeable amount of torque below 3krpm. Aside of that, I like how the increase in sound tells you how far the throttle plates are opening.

rx8miami 04-21-2004 04:38 PM

gin, you feel a loss of torque at low revs? odd, i feel the opposite. tell me more about your install. did you get it doen right? all the hoses connected?

rx8miami 04-21-2004 04:39 PM

oh gin and by the way how do you get the snior member out and put in your little headline?

rx8_250f 04-21-2004 05:16 PM

id say performance is about the same, maybe a little better. definately not worse, but cant really tell too much of a difference. GIN do you have the heat shield with your setup? if not, maybe thats why you felt a loss in torque. Mine came with the heatshield.

GiN 04-21-2004 08:17 PM

The reason I say that I feel a loss of torque at the low end (say, somewhere between 1k and 3k rpm) is due to less of a "kick" between shifts, as opposed to when I had the stock intake. As far as I know, I've installed everything correctly, including the heat shield (otherwise I would not be able to mount the engine cover properly). Of course, my observations regarding torque are vague and will be cleared up on the dyno soon.

BTW to clear out the "Senior Member" text go to the USER/CP link at the top of the page, click PROFILE, and modify the field "CUSTOM USER TEXT" under the "birthdate" option. This custom field is enabled once you've passed 100 posts on the forum, I believe.

NOT MEANT TO SOUND FLAMEY!!! really...
Just a logic question. Why would you be thinking about torque loss related to shifting around 1-3krpm? If you're really interested in power gains, I can't imagine shifting into a higher gear that would engage at less than 4.5krpm anyway!

Am I just being cynical?
Not meant as a rant, your post just made me think about this for a moment.

The torque loss I mention is not necessarily only in slow speed shifting, but more pronounced in a standing take-off. It's a habit of mine to simply engage the clutch at idle without any extra revs, and then add gas to actually start moving.
I notice that in these particular situations (taking off from a complete stop at an intersection, freeway onramp, etc..) the car seemed to have more "kick" below 3000 prior to installing the K&N.
Nevertheless, I have since gotten used to it.

Navybeardbb 05-08-2004 01:04 AM

The only time my car is below 3k rpms is when i'm idling. Even when i'm on the freeway it's usually at like 3,500-4,000 rpms...maybe i drive a lil' fast i guess lol.
