turbo size

i am lookin to purchasing my wastegate and turbo soon but i am not looking for a smaller turbo that spools up right away i have seen the T70 and T66 Turbos for the 8 but i have also seen the t3/t4 turbos and i am lookin to go more of the straight line other than auto-x so i am am looking for suggestions on a size of a turbo that you think would size up well with our 8......thanx

Are you comfortable with reading a compressor map? Do you understand "trim" and "stage"? Do you understand a corrected gas flow map?

If so, search the relevant threads.
If not, save up your money and pay someone who does.

Read Maximum Boost by Corky Bell, I'm reading it and you can learn a lot from it.

BTW, can anyone else recommend a good book. I got Maximum Boost due to rotorock's suggestion.

i think its called turbochargers, its by a guy hugh mc innes. its older than bell's book, but perhaps less opinionated too

unreal89 10-19-2007 01:01 AM

Are there any turbocharing books specific to rotaries? I haven't really been able to find any on Amazon.

And just to keep it on topic, if you don't really want to research and what not, the gt35r is supposed to be a good turbo for the rx-8. Also the 60-1, which is cheaper due to the lack of ball bearings.

MazdaManiac 10-19-2007 05:24 AM

There is no such thing as a "GT35R" or a "60-1".
These are turbo families.

chetrickerman 10-19-2007 09:55 AM

just be careful on how small you go, because some turbos that come with the greddy kit cant feed the engine enough air after 7000 rpm. Im, only saying some so dont get pissed you greddy owners, but i have seen videos where it says it specifically

mazdaman69 10-21-2007 12:31 AM

no i am comforable with inderstanding those yet i am tryin but it just isnt clicking

MazdaManiac 10-21-2007 12:42 AM

So, you are not comfortable, just willing.

Until it does "click", there is no useful answer for your endeavor. You have a long road ahead.

Use the advanced search feature. It's not that bad.

rotarygod 10-23-2007 11:04 AM

A T66 or T70 are way too large for street use unless your goals are well over 400hp. Going larger than you need is just as inefficient as going too small.

My personal favorites are a T04B for sub 350 rwhp performance and a 60-1 (it exists, I had one and it is in fact called a 60-1) for 400 rwhp or so performance. I'm a creature of habit so I'm not into the new GT designated turbos. Use a P trim turbine wheel.

chetrickerman 10-23-2007 11:35 AM

what about the VVT turbo, or foil bearing turbo?
