Turbo, Other mods, or TV?
 

Hey Everyone,

Due to a decent month at the online poker tables, a few expense checks, and my side business having a good month I will have around $2-3K in funds above and beyond what I normally have extra. I am trying to decide the best use of these funds.

1) Should I purchase the Greddy turbo to add a little more kick to the car? My car only has 870 or so miles on it so I am not sure if putting the turbo on such a new car would be wise.

2) Should I have the custom leather interior and other simple mods done? I have a Winning Blue GT with the black leather and really want a two-toned black/blue leather with blue side panels, etc. I could also have the OEM CD/MP3 player, side strakes, clear corners and MS Spoiler done as well.

3) I currently have a 50" HDTV in a downstairs area of my house, but find myself watching most TV on a different floor of my house. I usually only watch movies or the HBO Sunday Night shows on the big screen. This is also not a wide screen and I would really prefer a wide screen as well. So should I buy a new 60-65" Wide Screen Projection HDTV and then just move the existing big screen TV to the floor I watch most of my TV on. (Only a 28" TV in there now :( )

I like the turbo idea but, like you said, am not so sure that it would be a good idea to add to a new car. I'd wait until closer to the end of your car's warranty. Adding in the turbo kit would void it otherwise.

sway bars
RB wing (or MS)
MP3 player
strakes

And you could have your two-tone interior like WHealy

That is in my mind. I would like a projector and drop down screen. I think that would be quite a nice setup, just unsure of costs associated with it as well as finding professional installation.

What aspect ratio can these produce (Can you view widescreen programs and have them look normal)? Can you hook up an HDTV Cable box and have it look as good as a rear projection TV?

Go with the interior--a turbo will void your warranty--wait for that when the warranty is up?

2k would get you a pretty nice projector. As for how they look running an HD cable box to them, I think it looks great. I'm running a fairly low end one (infocus X1, was about $800 2 or 3 years ago), and it looks impressive. And I still haven't gotten a screen. Different projectors have different native aspect ratios (4:3 vs 16x9), but since the screen size isn't fixed, you won't have anything like the black bars around it like you would on a standard tv if you switch aspect ratios (they will usually still output both). The biggest problem with projectors is they don't do particularly well with a lot of ambient light.

I wouldn't turbo the car yet, warranties are nice.

How about throwing the money in a 3 year CD or bond. Then if you still have the car and the warranty is about up, the money is there. Unless you just have that crazy urge to buy something :D . Happens to me occasionally.

You're a brave man :D

Get the TV and whatever mods (if any, depends on the TV) you can afford afterwards. You're not going to be able to do the trubo upgrade properly with only 2-3K.

Hey Guys/Girls,

I wound up getting my home theater setup. I picked up an InFocus SP8405 from Sams club for $1100 that included a screen. I could have gotten it cheaper online, but would not have gotten a nice screen and would have to wait a week or two to get it.

I am going to use the money left over to try and get some decent home theater seating. I took a look at some places this weekend and damn it is expensive.

is that projector true HD? if not I'd return it

Yes it is, and I must say that the HDTV Channels displayed through the projector look MUCH better then on my actual HDTV (guess because my 50" is not a widescreen so all 16:9 shows look a bit off.)

looks like I get to watch the season finale of HBO's Carnival on nearly 100" tonight.
