Turblown Reliability
Ok, I have read threads upon threads, but I could not find one that says anything about the long-term reliability of turblown's turbo build. I am thinking about getting one on my rx8, but I want to know reliability before I do. I have read great reviews about the company and I know that any FI will create a shorter lifespan, but some are better than others.
P.S. - I know that I will need internals modded for the engine as well as all the other stuff that goes with FI. |
It will be as reliable as any other turbo.
Reliability is usually associated with user knowledge/ maintenance... |
Very little is known about engine reliability with the turblown set up. They do a ton of custom work and the majority of there kits out there are different.
Most reliability issues are from tuning or improper installs. That being said you have a ton to look up and research before you decide anything. Good luck! |
That's because aside from 09factor, no one has run the top mount one for any length of time and the few that I have seen make decent power don't seem to be around for very long between rebuilds but that is not necessarily the fault of Turblown. The low mount kit is new so you won't find much on that kit either.
The quality and execution of the kit is important but the quality of the install, tuning solution, and the supporting parts are equally important. For me the jury is out on them as a company since my experience with them was lack luster. I am also friends with two current customers/members awaiting low mount kits so we shall see how those experiences go and how the installs go. |
Heat is the #1 problem with any turbo kits and the rx8. The more the kit manufacturer does to control heat with shields turbo placement it will prolong the life of the engine. Next will have to be tuning..
Last thing will have to be the operator... Those factors will yield a longer period before rebuilds. Now if the engine is internally done to take boost than that period will be even longer before rebuilds.. |
Thanks for the input. I have been researching for the past three years, since I've owned this car, just about the rotary in general, and for the past year, have really been trying to learn everything about FI. I do have a few body mods to increase aerodynamics and better airflow and cooling under the hood, as well as an engine rebuild/street port done by Turblown. Those will be done by March '13, and then I will be looking at the turbo install. I will let you guys know how everything goes when it happens. Thanks again.:Peace:

there is a lack of turblown feedback but there is also a lack of horror stories.
|
Yeah, it won't be until March because that's when I will be back in the states. I am currently deployed.
|
So this is really just another "hey look at me and what I have planned" thread before actually doing anything

Yeah, I guess that would be the case, but I believe it's a plan in progress, I am buying the small stuff that I can do myself and having it shipped home so I can do it once I get back.:fingersx:

Well, if you are planning on going with the Turblown kit then if I were you, I would order it now, that way you won't have to wait long for it when you get back stateside.
|
Or you could buy my Turblown kit, it's ready now
|
complete kit and 2500$ off thats a good deal just make sure you get some sort of ECU/tuning device, and the support mods radiator, oil catch can, etc.
