Transmission with Turbo Kit?

Hi clubRx8,

Those of who've successfully added turbo kits to your RX8's with stock motors & manual transmisssions, what torque levels can the stock transmission / clutch handle and what upgrades (clutch / trans fluid) have you guys found to prolong its life? Lastly, what is regarded as the safe power limit on these rotary motors? My friend is thinking of adding a turbo kit to his RX8, but I wanted to ask the experienced end-users in this community too :). Thanks in advance.

stock transmission is fine, if not going too aggressive with the boost. 300rwhp is safe, with only a few supporting mods.
Check the "Major Horsepower Upgrades" section for more info. There is literally TONS of info. Just takes patience sifting through most of the nonsense... ;)

What use is your friend going to do of the car?
Stock az6 transmissions simply don't last if tracked. Search for Jason Saini's threads to understand why.
The clutch will hold just fine though :)

Stock is good to 300whp 260 lb/ft so long as you don't beat on it or track it a lot .
So street driven if careful it will last a long time .

FWIW , a guy on here ran his to 330lb/ft torque and it gave up within a couple of days .

Thanks guys,

he will just use the car to enjoy on the street. But I am curious, what you folks do to upgrade the transmission to handle more torque? Or is it too expensive a process that it is not worth it? I'm still researching other threads int he forum...lotta stuff to sift through ha!

Transmission upgrades for the AZ6 start at 3000$...
It's cheaper to just swap to an s2 transmission and slightly modify it if it's going to see heavy track use.

Define "slightly modify"

What can be modified to an s2 transmission? New internals for it?

Can someone tell me more about the S2 transmission?

Just replace a couple of plastic bushings with aluminium ones, that's it unless you want to start going big. Again, Jason Saini said this all before me and he has way more experience than i do on the subject :) Search for his thread!

FYI if your talking about Chikenwafer, his transmission took a shit in the first place for other reason than the torque level. The transmission will handle about 330-350lb of torque.
