Throttle Body

Does anyone make an aftermarket larger throttle body for the 8?

zoom44 06-09-2006 10:10 PM

no

rotarygod 06-09-2006 10:14 PM

You don't need a larger one. It is already 75mm which is larger than many V8 throttlebodies. It already flows more than the engine does. It is also electric as the car is drive by wire so even if you could get a larger one installed, the ecu would have to be completely recalibrated. Larger throttlebodies are useful on some cars but not all. This is definitely one car where it isn't going to do anything for you.

They have to use a new throttlebody. It's cable opertated as opposed to drive by wire. They are the same size though.

Is there any optimization to be done to it? I know there are a lot of things that you can usually do to throttle bodies to make them a little better- ie. getting rid of speed bumps, and filing down the center bar...

Is there anything on the RX that can be optimized? I know that they did an excellent job or wringing out every hp they could.

swoope i sent you the pic

i believe spacers have been discussed here before but they were considered useless by rotarygod himself... there are some of those available though... a google search will turn some up made specifically for the rx-8.

^^^OK, Swift. Give up some info. I see two BOVs, a polished/chromed metal upper intake manifold, and a relocated coolant overflow. Where is this car and where are the parts?

rotarygod 06-15-2006 10:04 AM

There's only 1 blow off valve. It's before the throttlebody. The one by the turbo is the wastegate and the purple thing back on the firewall looks like a fuel pressure regulator.

swift21 06-15-2006 12:55 PM

there is two blow off valves the purple thing in the back is an HKS oil cap. & it's stand alone fuel management......what do you guys think?

MadDog 06-15-2006 01:10 PM

Yep. Definitely 2 BOV's - both are HKS SSQVs. There is also an external wastegate. It def. pretty.

rotarygod 06-15-2006 01:24 PM

You guys are right. I didn't see the blow off valve in the front at all.

evilmiata 08-22-2006 03:47 PM

Thread from the dead: Why would one need 2 BOVs?

silverwolf 08-23-2006 08:08 AM

first off has there ever been a plenum to try for the 8 (aftermarket)
second there are definatly 2 BOVs on that setup. would the owner of the pic please stand up and shed a little light?

KJ238 08-24-2006 11:19 AM

Ummm.. THat's a T04Z... Amazingly large turbo.. wonder whats the power like? and more importantly the lag like?
