are these high-flow cats the same?

sorry for what is a simple and maybe a redundant question..:uhh:
there aren't any part numbers to reference and they "appear" the same other than the $50 price difference.

and on a side note, they have a bolt and gasket kit for $30 in case the stock ones from the oem cat cannot be reused but does anyone know offhand how much the dealer would charge for identical parts

Hard to say, the 2nd link you gave has pretty much no information on the cat or pipe. The first at least explains and says what type of high flow cat your buying. Just by the pictures you can see they are not the same though.

I think that 1st one is just an outdated picture, it's been listed that way for quite some time even though they switched cats probably 3 or 4 years ago.

Unfortunately I've had terrible luck with the RP cat. My last one only lasted 5,000 (or was it 7,000 miles) I forget which.

You could get a Corksport high flow cat with resonator.

Join EvolvChicago and get a discount at Continental Mazda in Naperville. They are a Corksport retailer.

thecarter19 06-02-2011 07:19 PM

what do I do with the second bung on the corksport pipe w/ catalyst if I'm not running another sensor?

really continental mazda can get a deal on corksport components? I don't mind spending a little extra I just wanted to get some added performance and replace my old oem cat with a high flow cat, just didnt seem like there were a lot of options. I'm na w/ rb air duct & borla cat-back and wanted a good compliment

wait what?

Please tell me you're joking!!!

Id consider the BHR with a high flow catalyst if it was closer in price to some of these others

I rarely say this, but you get what you pay for. You will not find a better quality resonated midpipe. That goes for the construction and the sound.

thecarter19 06-02-2011 09:39 PM

well maybe since they are discontinued they will drop the price

TeamRX8 06-02-2011 10:08 PM

cheap is cheap and good is good, but when it comes to this subject cheap bastage is a double fail

Ray made a sarcastic funny, yeah it happens once in a great while :cwm27:

I have an equal number of BHR & Corksport components on my car. My catback was purchased before there was a BHR and I think you were still in Detroit at that time.

pdxhak 06-03-2011 10:04 AM

I have the BHR midpipe and Corksport cat back. I get lots of compliments all the time. And that includes the BHR crew :)

yea I've read good things about the BHR part but $450 for a midpipe plus $175 to add a catalyst is a pretty big margin compared to ~450 range for pretty much every other high flow cat I've seen. Can you sell me on why its worth the added $$$ compared to the popular RP supercat or the corksport version?

pdxhak 06-03-2011 07:16 PM

^The BHR resonated midpipe does not use packing material like you find in the other pipes. Read through the BHR Midpipe thread for the details.

alnielsen 06-03-2011 07:35 PM

Nor does the Corksport if their product description is correct.

longpath 06-03-2011 07:58 PM

I'd have already have purchased the BHR midpipe if it weren't for the rumored header that they are supposedly developing which also supposedly requires a custom midpipe. I think it will be well worth the price, and, since I regard my RX-8 as a touring car that I intend to keep for the next decade or more, quality is something I am happy to pay for.

thecarter19 06-03-2011 08:17 PM

I plan on keeping my car a while too and going cheap is something I avoid but I don't want to overpay for identical or near identical performance which is why Im doing as much research as possible before I buy.
