Is there a better 2 cycle oil that you don't have to order?
Was just curious. Is there a good 2 cycle oil to use as premix? I read all of RIWWP's sticky about 2 cycle oils, the only problem is most (if not all) of those oils have to be ordered. Is there anything that I can buy locally that will serve just as well? Also, can I use that same 2 cycle oil in a sohn adapter or is something specific required? Thanks.
(Sorry if I sound clueless. Haha. Ive only had my 8 for a little under a year. Currently in college for automotive. I'm still learning.)
I use Lucas Semi-synthetic. It's low ash, JASO certified. The certification is what you want to look for.
Stay away from TCWs.
I get it from O'Reilly's, about $10/qt, good for 4 fillups at 8oz.
Some may say that's a bit heavy, you can do some research and decide for yourself.
There is also a true synthetic Stihl 2 stroke available at some ag. and dealers that sell Stihl products, and Home Depot has syn. Echo oil.
I too use Lucas Semi-Synthetic 2 Cycle Oil. I buy it by the gallon from Amazon Prime, as it is a little cheaper that way. I use 6 oz per tank, except on track days, when I use 8 oz per tank.

^ Interesting! I have not seen that one. I will have to check my local Academy stores to see if they carry it. Their web site is a little spotty on the JASO version.

My local Wal-Mart has been selling gallon sized Quicksilver jaso fd full synthetic 2 cycle for a year or so now.
I use Mystic JT4 (Fully synthetic JASO FC) that I get at a local sporting goods store (Academy) for $25.00 a gallon.
No Academy stores anywhere close to my area. Haven't even heard of them til now. Ineresting. Anyway, I think I'll try for lucas. Might see if I can find anything else available in bulk thats decent. Thanks!
Weird. I live in a large city and neither Walmart nor Academy near me sells any 2 cycle oil that is not TCW3. I'm sure some of the powersports shops have some options, but likely at a higher cost than I am currently paying. Lucas from Amazon it is for me.
^ That is the one. But i did see the gold bottle one at the store last time and while it says TCW3 on the front, on the back is says JASO FC so I don't know. But I don't have a cat so it doesn't really matter to me anyway to be honest.

Well, that throws a monkey in the wrench. Is the demarcation the 'low ash' designation now?
Or is the TCW3 ok now if it's JASO certified?
I did a little research and found what I think is a reasonably good explanation of the differences in some 2 stroke oils.
It's from 2010, so there may be some new developments, but it is very informative.

*EDIT* It appears this is mainly for marine applications, and it seems the NMMA certification is undesirable for other applications.

i used this in my my fully built rx7, and continue to use it in my rx8, love it and never had any issues in any of my rotary cars over the past 15 years
BTW Mystic JT4 everyday low price is $16.99/gal at Menards. I picked up 2 x 1 US gallon yesterday. Better deal than Lucas Semi on Amazon. Mystic JT-4 is tested and approved for JASO FD.

I searched this entire city top to bottom for any kind of JASO rated two-stroke oil. Went to multiple locations at all 4 major autoparts stores, academy, two different "powersports" shops, etc. One of the O'Reilly's I went to had the lucas semi-synthetic, once, but never again after that.
Ended up going to Amazon, which turned out a hell of a lot easier than driving around from store to store. (Half the places I'd call up didnt' even know what JASO was)
It is called Sea and Snow (for snowmobiles and PWCs). The clue was the JASO FD and ISO-L-EGO ratings - also states to not use when TCW3 rating is required. Mystik lubes are from Citgo. Pics attached of the actual container.
