Talking about MazdaSpeed FlyWheel... what do you think?
 

HI EVERYBODY
i was thinking about adding a lightweight FlyWheel on my red RX-8, but, before buying and installing it, i would like to have some impression on how really feels the difference between the stock one and the MazdaSpeed.
Also, since everyonce in a while (2-3 times a week) i have to go to Charlotte, which is 84miles from where i live, so do quite a bit of Highway, and i'd like to know if this kind of FlyWheel causes any problem to the Wankel when working for long periods with a lightweight FlyWheel.
If anybody already tryed a lightweight FlyWheel, please, tell me how is it.

I have the racing beat aluminum flywheel. I would suggest getting the Act Prolite one....and save yourself a couple hundred dollars....and it weighs less then the Racing Beat one and much less then the Mazdaspeed one.

Would you mind sharing the reasons why you are recommending ACT even though you have the RB, other than weight? Thanks in advance.

I have the MS flywheel. I wish I would have gotten the ACT beacuse:

1) PRICE
2) ACT has an even lower moment, so the effects of the FW would be more pronounced
3) PRICE

Oh yeah, did I mention that the MS costs too much?

thank's for the information, for whatever i understood from you, the MazdaSpeed FlyWheel is not so much impressive, but, my car is new, has only 3 months, so is still under warranty, and i don't want to void it, so, what i will probably do is just skipping this part for few years.
For now, i will get for sure the MazdaSpeed Sport Exhaust and a high air flo air filter... those two are for sure, about the FlyWheel... will see.

I have the MazdaSpeed Flywheel on my car. While it isn't as light as some, you can feel the difference over the original. And it will improver the performance more than a replacement catback exhaust will.

ACT Prolite Flywheel owner here.
Awesome! Glad to have it -- no issues on the open road at all. Been installed for 11 months.

Any of you guys have the ACT clutch also? I've been wanting to buy and install the ACT flywheels but I want to install it along with the 4.777 final drive, but I havent seen anyone in the forum who made a complete write up about how to make it work exactly.

I have the ACT streetlite (heavier than the prolite by 3.5lbs), act pressure plate and a bonez street comp clutch. I love all of them. The flywheel revs so much more evenly and faster than stock and drives extremely easily.
I would've gone with the prolite but i figured since my car is a daily driver and i drive thru rush hour every day, it'd be better to have a little more low end.

Have you noticed less low end torque with the StreetLite?

To answer your follow-up question above, I bought the Racing Beat one because it has replaceable friction surface plates and Racing Beat is a highly trusted vendor.

My dealership was ok with me installing an aftermarket flywheel and said it would not void my warranty. ..but I bought the car from them and they are cool with all my mods...as long as I am not tinkering with the ECU or doing NOS or F.I.

Then, i will have to Buy it
 

So, everybody now is talking good about this FlyWheel, but, probably, i will buy it in the Future.
But, tell me, somebody was talking about less torque at the High Rpm?
Actually, i love the torque that i have at 9000rpm, i don't want to lose that...
Just let me know the different feeling from the stock and the light, and, if the person that is useing the MazdaSpeed one can tell me if he noticed big difference in performance and gas drinking... i will appreciate.
In any case, information of this type about any brand are accepted really good, because, may be i will do something crazy and i will go order Exhaust and FlyWheel at the same time...

sr motorsports makes a 9.75 ibs flywheel and clutch kit for 850 how light is the act prolite and dont u need to buy a auto couter wieght for the manal

a light flywheel u loose no power u gain power to the wheels and u rev up faster u wont loose power anywhere but your car feel diffrent

Maybe I'm saying the same thing as the privious poster. With a light weight flywheel you won't loose any torque or gain HP. The LW flywheel just allows your engine to change RPM's quicker. With less rotating mass, you will feel the increased accelleration. It will also make gear changes easyer. A LW flywheel can make taking off a little bit more difficult for some, but with a little practice (2 or 3 starts) there isn't any problem.

with a light wieght flywheel u will hp to the wheels do to lighting up the drian train but. say this u wont have anymore hp out out the the motor u just put more threw the to the wheels do to the light trany parts

What about wear on the engine? Alot of companies use dual-mass flywheels or heavier flywheels to dampen the amount of stress on the the engine, will a lighter flywheel hurt the internals of the engine?

A light weight flywheel should reduce drivetrain HP loss, which in turn should increase Rear Wheel HP. The engine HP at the crank would be unchanged.

My mod for this year will be a lightweight flywheel.

I was thinking Racing BEat but now this ACT one has me intrigued, what the weight diference and the price diference?
