Taka's review of Ogura Racing Clutch - light 250 HP model.

This is the ORC (Ogura Racing Clutch) light 250. It is high pressure type so I have room for engine mods. Wicked. They are rated up to 235kW. So I will need to change it once I decided on turbo.

It has a baby blue colour.

Now weight

The fly - 5.5kg steel. Light on outside.

The organic plate with package is 0.8kg. I guess 0.6kg on its own.

So the kit is less than 10kg or just over when I add in the counterweight, need a AT rear counterweight.

This is the counterweight that I purchased from Mazda today.

Most aftermarket flywheel needs a counterbalance and most use the rear counterbalance from the automatic gear box of the RX-8. I need some bolts for that 6 holes and I will come tomorrow.

Model number N3Z2-11-52X
$105 from Max Kirwan.
Weigh 1.6kg

The clutch is in.

My impression? It is very light. The pedal can go to the floor without much flex of my left leg muscle. The bite is excellent and very instance, so it would be slightly harder to drive. However, I found it is ok in traffic for me.

The gear shifting is much smoother. I think now it is back to normal. Like a new car!

The main thing is the 1st 2 gears the response is very good. It shoot towards 9500 rpm without fuss. I cannot go to the 9000rpm in 3rd gear during Easter... otherwise I will get book big time. Haha.

Drive shaft has to be taken out. The gear box was taken out to reach the clutch.

The cat and midpipe is out to make way to drop the tranny.

Nelson commented how clean the fuel has been burning. How clean the inside of manifold!

Starter motor! It is the first thing to come out and why I took a day in a Mazda dealer to fix that?

Note the hole: Where the starter motor is taken out off.... you can see the flywheel beyond that!

Track Review of my Ogura Clutch

Personal Best time (and I think it is the fastest RX-8 time) at Winton Raceway. http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...smilies/ed.gif

For where the split beacons are LINK TO PIC.

The car revs very well. I got an extra gear out of the cleavage and to the left turn 10. The gear box is silky smooth and I thought I have not been into the gear. So easy to get into 3rd now! . I think the worn out clutch was the cause of the crunchiness of the gear change on track. Now sorted.

I got a PB on the set up lap with a passenger inside. What the hell. I knew I have something special today. The car is AOK for balance with the new found power. At the straight I got another 5kmh .

Look at my theoretical best time. .... 1.41.420.

The mid pipe popped out in the last session and melted the bumper guard . :Eyecrazy:

not cheap but nice choice, however a clutch should be rated by TQ, not HP :dunno:

takahashi 04-17-2007 04:27 AM

Taka is full of shit

It also has torque ratings 313Nm

Price is not expensive. AUD$1080 for the whole set as shown above. Couterweight is AUD$108 plus pin $36 from Mazda

So this is a light flywheel as well as light clutch Taka ?

takahashi 04-17-2007 06:09 AM

Yes I think you can say that. I always planned to change clutch and flywheel together... since I have done 40000km and about a dozen hardcore track days, most of them have 30+laps/per days...

The major difference is not how light it is and how good it revs and I am 5kmh faster.

BUT I fixed my notchy gearbox! COMPLETELY!

Good stuff Taka!

How much was the install?

Im planning to get mine replaced with an ACT prolite and heavy duty clutch one the flywheel lands in Aus!

Mechanic quoted me about $450?

nycgps 04-17-2007 09:56 AM

I did mine couple weeks ago, with Fidanza + Act HD, the rev goes much much faster.

but the shop did a pretty bad job in reinstalling the parts I think the PPF is not right. I was about to drop it myself last week but had something important to do .... I will find a week thats not raining and re-do it.

Hey taka your clutch looks pretty cute, I like that baby blue color, where you got it from ?

nycgps, I got it from a local motorsports shop. RMS motorparts, who import from Japan directly.

ORC 250 light strange sound

I installed a T618 turbo, so I chose ORC 250 light,
But I found that my ORC clutch will make a loud noise when the car is running in 3-5 gears and 3000-4000 rpm at a certain point. It is a bit like resonance and a bit like a high-load sound. In short, it is very loud. It’s weird. After 4000, you will feel very comfortable. Have you ever encountered it?
In addition, I would like to ask how much oil you use after adding the turbine. I currently use 5w40 but it feels too sticky, and my technician told me that using 5W30 might not be enough in summer.
