Star Mazda ECU Update for the Motec System

I was wonder if anyone else saw this? I saw this link in another thread and decided to start this thread based on the fact that this is something different. Here is the link.

And there is a link on the bottom of the page, which says:

Star Race Cars releases ECU upgrade

Revised March 10, 2004. Pacoima, CA. Owners of the new Pro Formula Mazda are advised to upgrade the ECU's of their cars with the latest release from Star Race Cars. The upgrade improves drivability at low RPM's, prevents loading up of the spark plugs and helps drivers get out of the pits and through the paddock easier. Other changes int he mapping enhance the traction control, making the sytem linear so that a small slip leasds to a small cut while a big slip leasd to a big cut. Details on how to download and install the upgrade are posted below.

To Download:

Right click here and select "save target as" to begin the process to your local computer, you shouldn't need to change the name of the file but make sure you save it after selcting All files from the pull down menu instead of HTML Document.

Note: If this system is not the system you use to conect to your Motec system you will need to copy the file over to the proper computer.

To Install:

Transfer the attachment to your Motec ECU Program File called, "M800-V21"

Then connect to the car, with the ECU Program running.

Go to File, Encrypt, Send Encrypt, Click on to PFM Control Map 031004C.f21

I know this is for the race cars but was wonder if this would work for our cars and the benefits. Mazda professes that these two engines are virtually the same. So?

If you want to spend $5000+ for the Motec. :(

Just throwing it out there. And I have seen Motec's for around $2500 for the M400 for the two rotary. Also, it looks like they are controling more than just the fuel with it. Like I said, just throwing it out there.

The Renesis is capable of so much more power, but remember that race engines are rebuilt frequently also due to long durations of high RPM...

What we need is the Racing Beat solution!

I just thought it was interesting that they were also controlling the traction control. They are Mazda sponsered cars. Looks like they were concerned about the fowling of the spark plugs. I am personally waiting for Racing Beat too.

The MoTeC unit in the racecars is not enough to control evrything on the rx8. SpeedSource uses the M800 on the Grand Am cars and cannot use the power steering but don't seem to have any problems winning anyhow. Anyway, no the procedure won't work on a stock car.

Hope this helps.

I know this wouldn't exactly work on cars but, some of the applications may be useful to Mazda and other tuners. But Mazda does claim its the same engine. Joking. Thought someone find this interesting.

It could have been a good find if this calibration file was not encrypted.
