Stand Alone possiblities

I was thinking that it would be pretty sweet if Mircotech were to come out with a harness adapter for the lt(x)-8 to the stock rx-8 harness. I don't see a problem with the stock harness yet because the cars are so new. The only thing I was wondering was what type of air flow sensors are on these cars, I would guess a MAF. If so out that goes and would be replaced by a MAP. Has anyone else looked into stand alones for the rx-8 yet? I know we will need some kind of tuning for when SSR finishs his turbo, I think Stand Alones are the best and the only REAL solution to get the turbos to run really well. Opinions?

I'm getting a Microtech for a project on the car. It will be standalone however I will be loosing my DSC and other "special" features that the car offers. I will however have faith in knowing that my car's being controlled by a system that I can watch and understand.

is the tec3 a piggy back unit? How compatible is it with the 8?

NO OBD2!!

Do you need to get your car inspected? Good luck without a functional OBD2 port these days.. I had to find a "friendly" mechanic to pass my Motec'd Subaru..

Most cars produced these days are equipped with the OBD2. I think its kind of a pain. It took me all summer to get my wrx to pass emissions with only one cat. The damn OBD2 kept pulling cat ineffeciency codes.

Now someone needs to throw it on the 8 and do some testing. No one is going to be able to make any real power on this motor without engine management.

The mircotech works pretty damn sweet on an FC3S, i know this from experience, but it seems to be more of an enthusiest stand alone in that it is inexpensive but doesn't allow all of the stock functions to work like the TEC 3 does. It is a really easy system to tune and the hand controller is sweet. The rx-8 is going to need some fuel big time if we want to run over 6psi.

Paul Yaw has the 36-2 trigger wheels for the ignition for the Motec. He will be running one on the race car.

Remember that anyone doing a standalone ecu will need a new fuel pump, regulator, and modified fuel rails. The RX-8 uses a returnless fuel system with no regulator and no return line. The ecu varies the fuel pressure through the fuel pump.

It's going to need more than fuel with that compression ratio.

Alcohol injection perhaps?

I'm happy with 6psi and around 250kw.
