Stainless Steel Clutch Hose
 

Has anyone installed the stainless steel clutch hose from Rotary Performance or elsewhere? If so, how is it? My wife gave me a gift certificate for RX-8 parts, and I'm leaning towards installing this $38 part, plus a tranny and rear diff refill with Royal Purple.

Had mine installed with new tranny.Only problem was i had a new clutch installed to so i cant say what the difference is.For 38 bucks you cant go wrong.

Thanks for the discussion. Since I have been working on the nitrous thing I haven't been to the other websites. I put an ACT Extreme Duty pressure plate in my car. I have wanted to get a new hose but since the clutch works fine it is not a top priority. Same goes for the tranny and diff fluid change. I agree with WTF.

I installed mine, and it seems to have reduced the 1-2 shift grind at 8900+rpm quick shifts. And thats about it. That alone made me happy though =)

The funny/cool thing about the light flys is that you almost NEED to shift briskly to drive smoothly. If you take too long the engine winds down and the shifts seem harsh. Once the finesse is mastered though, ya sound like a pro.

With a heavy pressure plate (like the ACT) you'll need more hydraulic line pressure to get the pressure plate movin'. The stainless braided clutch line takes out a LOT of slop in the clutch hydraulics, and some clutch setups are flat-out undriveable without a braided clutch line - the increased hydraulic pressure makes the rubber line swell, putting the clutch engagement point very close to the floor.

If you don't have a lot to spend, it's worth doing. If nothing else, you know you won't be worrying about the rubber clutch line failing in about, oh, 100,000 miles :).

I'd double-check with Corksport - they have the same type of lines, but much cheaper. Dunno if they have an RX-8 applicaiton - if not, I'd call and ask. The RX-7 clutch line might work, or be really damn close.
