Yes I have heard all this many times. I have a cz 1.1 with m flash and luckely mine works well. Very noticeable. I dont' need a dyno to tell me. What I can't help wondering is why there is such an indiividual varience on differant cars? Has anyone ever spoke of or addressed that? Why would Mazda do that? How can a car be tuned from the factory if the maf is functioning differantly from the factory specs?
Has anyone tried to change their maf?
Anyone talked to a factory or regional rep about this?

Yeah. I've never heard of one that ran 10.2 either. 10.4 yes (SGP's Z), but no 10.2's that I'm aware of unless its happened in the last few months. Back to the 1.1....I sure hope they get all the bugs worked out of it. It seems like the best bang for the buck upgrade this side of FI.

I agree olddragger. I don't know what the allowable variation is in the spec. MAF sensor. It would be worth it to start putting it to Mazda across the board and see if we can find out how tight the sensor is supposed to be. The article talked about voltage differences of around .15 across a 4 volt range. I'm no EE so I don't know if this is a lot. I also have a racer buddy that has been doing some dyno work and his dyno guy was telling him he found power fluctuations depending on the orientation of the MAF sensor in the intake...different car but the theory may still hold water.

PROPER PLACEMENT OF THE MAFS IN THE INTAKE IS ESSENTIAL. one of the problems with aftermarket cai's is when a person installs it they have to make sure the mafs goes back in correctly. my understanding is that .15 volts is equal to 20% difference in fuel. which is not terribly bad stock BUT when you then use say a "stock" cz map that leans it out 20% more you can get some knock issues. so then the OEM PCM senses the knock, it changes timing to correct for the knock and you gain little or no power.

There are two ways to look at this. It's true we are trying to do a map that will work in any car. So far we have not totally succeded.

So, where does that leave the customer? Well, you can easilly sell your unit to someone else, or return it for a refund.

Or, you can learn to tune it yourself. It costs a few hundred to get the equipment you will need. You can tune it much further than we can, as we have to make allowances for variations between cars.

I don't see a problem. You can't get this much power any other way. If you think you can just buy a turbo or supercharger, guess what - you'll have to tune the car - with a unit like ours (or use ours - it does boost too).

I don't think you've wasted your time at all. You've just learned what's required to get more power, and the money you've spent is not wasted, it's bought you the parts you need to get the power you want. All you need is to do it.
