SR Motorsports Intake

anyone try it yet? thinking about it...

rx8miami 04-11-2004 08:50 AM

hav ethe thphoon by k&n and it rocks!

JimW 04-11-2004 11:26 AM

The $460 they are asking is too much. The H.P. figure they give you is with the combined intake, pully's and straight pipe, so the benefit of the intake alone is unanswered!

rotaryDemon 04-13-2004 02:22 AM

i have a full exhaust, and i dont really care about the pulleys.

Funkyrican 04-13-2004 06:25 PM

sup peeps i just got my New Winning Bkue RX8. So you guys think that the K&N Typhoon is beter.? How many HP did it increased....?

RX8on19s 04-13-2004 09:55 PM

rotaryDemon,

Full exhaust slows you down on a N/A renesis. You need to have some back-press.

It is exhaust gas velocity you need worry about and not back pressure. A larger exhaust slows down that velocity and can actually create more backpressure if you go too large. Back pressure is never a good thing.

rotarygod 04-13-2004 10:26 PM

That is it exactly! Backpressure is your enemy! Engines do not need backpressure to make low end power. The problem is that the exhaust system flows too much for that rpm which translates to exhaust gas velocity being too slow. You want as little backpressure as possible but you still need velocity. Show me a race car with back pressure and I'll show you a loser! If backpressure doesn't make power up high, how does it make power down low? It doesn't.

wakeech 04-13-2004 10:56 PM

...i dunno about "increasing exhaust backpressure", but raising static pressure it sure will (meaning a closer to zero net pressure difference). bernoulli's effect: live it.

oh and btw, this kind of "what brand of crap hardware should i choose to buy so i can list it as a mod and feel fast although its all in my head" stuff belongs in the half rice, half rediculous Aftermarket section. this is for more serious and practical technical discussion.

i don't mean to be so crass personally to you, but i think this "what brand of exactly the same thing that doesn't work very well should i buy" stuff is just tiresome and is needlessly filling up space here.

ScudRunner 04-14-2004 09:00 PM

So, Wakeech, what intake do YOU think I should buy? :D

BoxerGT2.5 04-14-2004 09:34 PM

Don't buy one....stick with the stock air box (which was designed for the car with a purpose) and at the most maybe a drop in filter like the K&N or Green filter. Aftermarket intakes have shown to do very little with the 8 outside of making it scream.

ScudRunner 04-15-2004 12:36 AM

that's what i did...my previous post was a bit of a joke...i bought the aFe filter that Racing Beat sells...
