Short shifter rattling

Tried searching and didnt see anything about this and havnt heard this exact issue before. Just in the last couple of days I've noticed a rattling sound from my shifter. It's only in first in the higher rpms, and more prevalent under harder acceleration. I've had the RP short shifter for about 8 months maybe. It's not the vibrating/hum that many describe, as said it's definitely a rattling sound. Is this anything to worry about or just the shifter moving a little?

Is it the shift ****? The metal on the top of my oem **** began to rattle so I dumped it for the Voodoo ****. Problem solved.

not the shift **** (at least I wouldnt think so..). As I said, the only time it happens is high rpms in first gear only... no other gear does that (well, first, second and third are the only gears it'll matter with most the time anyways, but it doesnt happen in 2nd and havnt really tried in third since the sound started). It still shifts fine and everything, but if it's the start of a problem I figured I'd ask just in case. Thanks for responses... if anyone else can think of anything, ideas are appreciated!

feels tight as can be. just rattles at high RPM's in 2nd and third. Not terrible, and only happens under hard acceleration. Maybe the plate isn't screwed down enough or something and it just hits some resonance with the metal? I have a voodoo **** and I don't think it's that.

Dump the Voodoo ****. The shifter was designed around the stock ****, no development work was ever done with others. People who use aftermarket ***** have mixed results. We can't go around testing all the combinations. I like the feel of the factory **** myself. Plus I live in a sunny place and can't imagine getting into the car in the summer and trying to use a metal **** that is baking in the 100+ sunshine.

Not sure how much this will help others but I found it interesting. I have the voodoo **** and have no issues with noise (that i can hear).

The other day I was cruising down the street looking for an address when I picked up a piece of paper with the address on it. The light turned green and I had the paper in my right hand and started shifting. When the paper touched the **** it amplified a very odd "rattle" noise from the shifter. The noise is not audible to me unless the sheet of paper is resting on the head of the voodoo ****.

I've done all the tricks people have posted (cutting the green liner down a bit, making sure the seem is facing forward, etc). If you're getting a noise from your shifter + **** setup I would follow RP's advice and try the stock ****.

As far as the **** getting hot in the sun and burning your hand... with great pleasure (the shifter) comes great pain (the toasty hot ****)

Unfortunately my car was bought at auction and did not come with a **** at all, so I opted for the voodoo over the expensive stock ****, I can deal with the noise to be honest, and it has not happened since my last post. I love the feel of the whole combo to let some noise bother.

GREAT PRODUCT RP

I know, I know, holy thread resurrection, Batman!

Anyway, I just installed a RP short shifter, and am experiencing the same rattle. Almost sounds like a loose nut so I took it all apart, retightened all nuts, that didn’t help. Stock ****. Happens with or without the console mounted. Anyone figure out why it happens?

Loving the shifter btw, never imagined it’d make such a big difference, which is why I left it on the shelf over a year before installing it...

Rattle happens only above 8500 rpm, and is not noticeable unless I’m accelerating. Easily noticeable in first, less pronounced in 2nd, even less so in 3rd.
