Shift Knobs: Light Weight VS Heavy
What do you guys think is better for the RX-8, a light shift knob or a heavy shift knob?
i think something close to the oem weight works best. i have the voodoo and it feels real nice!
^ OEM is heavy and that's best. Voodoo on the other hand is light, not ideal, especially for a short shifter
i have it for my afe ss it feels nice, but than again i never had my oem knob with the ss. but anything really light doesnt feel nice.
i've ordered the carbing shiftknob in gunmetal.
I"d say heavy
I would say around voodoo heavy is the beast. I've a Titanium shift knob, looks cool as hell, but too light. OEM is too heavy
i have the razo one and its light, IMHO lighter works best, and even better with the SS
oem weight is ideal, maybe slightly heavier. Nothing crazy heavy, that'll mess up the transmission (kinda like resting your hand on the gear knob)
how about we post pics of our various shift knobs?
Heavy
Definitely heavier is better -- gives you more leverage to shift faster, easier and feel less vibration from Tranny
how much does the stock shift knob weigh?
for racing I switched to an ultralight plastic one. When you're shifting fast the momentum of a heavy one causes you to over-pull/push the shifter, which with an S1 trans is not good ...
the gf has this guy on her 04 rx8
Phantom Shift Knob | TWM Performance Shift Knobs i also have it on my daily (09 c30) love it. doesnt get hot or cold -relatively speaking. on those hot summer days after work when the sun has been hitting it, it'll be 90F max. it's nice, and i wanna say about 30 degrees coldest - relatively of course |
I have the R-Magic shift knob with the AFE short shifter installed. Weighs about 500 grams, I really like the crisp and solid feel when changing gears. I just need to install a synchro saver so I don't end up over shifting on accident when I hit the track.
It's completely personal imo. Some people shift quicker with longer knobs, some with shorter, some with heavier, and some with lighter. I am thoroughly convinced that at any level below professional, shifter choice will have almost no impact. It's whatever feels best to you.

This. The OEM shift knob is already very heavy as is.
