SCCA racing questions
 
I'm joining the SCCA and I was wondering about slightly modifing the suspension, brakes, tires, and exhaust. Where would you start at with the modifications?

I think the engine has to be stock for the beginners, but I'm not sure I'm still waiting for the packet.

Are you going to run in Solo II? What class are you going to run in? These are some important questions before we can answer any questions and you start modifying your car.

To answer OP's question, depends on how serious your going to take it. If you just want to race for fun then by all means go all out!

If you want to stay in the most competitive class then your modifications will be extremely limited.

All in all if you just started out I wouldn't put too much thought into it. I only have 6 events under my belt and the skill of some of the good drivers in my region dwarf mine. No one gets good at autocross in a couple of events. But if you just have to spend money on something try koni yellows and good street tires. You can also go to the competition forum and look up competitive alignments.

step one to building a race car is deciding on what class to run

step two is to figure out what you need to do to the car to run it in that class (and be competative!)

people race rx8's in everything from stock class, to t3 to grand am, to name a couple...

stock is like its name, stock. t3, you take out the radio, and grand am is the tube frame 3 rotor speedsource car....
