RX 8 intake

K&N intake or RB intake?
Personally, I would like to keep a quiet driving environment
However, there is a conflict between my principal idea, as I really like the sound of the rotary engine (the flight engine sound).
This is my question, if I put a K&N intake would it be very loud inside the RX8 or it just make the sound of the engine to perfect?
Besides, I heard the RB intake reputation is not bad.
So I am asking for both intakes owner talks about your feelings, before I make my decision more suitable for myself :-D

thanks.

dude, why get an intake if you don't want it louder? go AEM or MS. you can't really tell either are there till you get on the throttle. then, hell yeah. it's like you got a 20b! 2nd to 3rd shift at WOT is the most beautiful sound i've ever heard.

k and n is a waste of money IMO. no cold air, and it sounds like ass.

RB revi with duct is good but pricey and not really loud enough IMO. without duct, it's a waste of money.

except that our car has a cold air intake from the factory.

the best intake for your money is

some panel filter of your choice (stock, k&n, green, etc)
+
racing beat duct

I have the RB intake with air duct, and I like it. At 6k you can rear hear it.

I had the K&N typhoon version 2..its REALLY loud on throttle.. enough to rattle my dash! Also felt like I lost power. I have an AEM on the way which is more of a CAI as opposed to a short ram.

doesn't sound as good as AEM/MS though.

good is subjective.

that set up, brand new is $150.

aem new is $340.

heres my suggestion..since ive had my rx8 ive tried all these intakes trying to find what i was looking for

K@N intake
K@N filter, stock airbox with baffles removed
HKS Intake
AEM Intake
Custom short ram tube, with basic cone filter
Injen Intake
RB Intake w/ duct

my opinion, the RB intake has the best sound, stock in low rpms, and much louder than stock with no raspiness as the rpms go up...and i felt a slight difference in power compared to any i thought i could feel with the others. Hope that helps

Omg, I can't believe there is someone tried all those.
From what you are saying, you are pretty satisfied with the RB intake w/ duct after tried all those
Actually I prefer the sound of 8 more like a s/c.
Do you have any suggestion from your experience.
thanks

You can't go wrong either way.
I had the AEM and currently have the RB with the air duct.
ONLY reason I swapped for the RB is because I had water in my AEM intake twice within the same year and it would screw-up me MAF sensor and cause my engine to bog.
This didn't cause any damage, just needed to dry the intake tubes and clean the MAF.
No problems driving in the rain or little puddles with the AEM, just can't direct a stream of water right at the filter (even with the supplied sock installed).
To be safe, just put a plastic bag around the filter before you wash your car if you get the AEM.
Other than that, the AEM is a great intake and it looks awesome in the engine bay.

^^ much appreciated, this too helps me out

If you don't want it louder, do as I did: remove the VFAD, install a Racing Beat Ram Duct and also install a K&N flat filter in the stock air box. One of the best things I've done to date. It really breaths allot better.

While you have the bumper off also install Racing Beat a/c condenser and oil cooler screens; cheap insurance and better looks.

Red Rex 05-06-2009 08:20 AM

AEM intake ftw, unless you're truely dedicated to your original two, then I'd go with Racing Beat.

Everyone notes how quiet my car is at cruising speeds. They expect my car to sound like a Honduh with a straight pipe exhaust I suppose.
When I get on the throttle it gets louder. Nothing too crazy but it sounds nice.
When I go full throttle it gets pretty loud, especially considering my stock exhaust. Me and a co-worker pulled up next to each other at the same time and I revved to 9K at his 3000GT and totally drowned out his revs. He actually got out of his car and was looking at the back of my car for the cat-back exhaust, and asked how I got it to be so loud.
I always get lots of looks when I pop my hood. When I'm at the shop its usually just Mustang guys who have never seen a rotary engine before but most people who don't know anything about cars just see the big red pipe and go "oooooo".

Idk most of the other intakes look weird. They try to maintain that stock look with the air box but it still looks out of place to me. Just looks funky. You're not going to get any big horsepower gains out of any intake so you might as well go for what looks/sounds the best.
