Does the CEL come on when you put this on?

I'll answer this one for you before the search nazi's get here: no.

How does it compare to OEM in thermal resistance?
 

Does it hold up as well against exhaust heat? Is it better than OEM in this regard?

If not, is there a cat on the market that is more thermally robust than OEM?

no CEL with the rp supercat.

I've been torturing my RP supercat for about 10,000 miles now and it's help up very well with the 'abuse'. Been on the dyno, done some agressive driving, still doing great.
The ONLY problem with some of the RP supercats is the heat sheilding weld. Some of these welds have broken and you'll get a rattle. Mine did it recently, super easy fix. Either take it to ANY muffler shop and have them do a quick reweld (5 minute job) or drill and put a bolt. Either way, it's so minor it's really not even worth worrying about

^^Most cats aren't up to the task... especially if you tune out out the rich stock AFR's. There was a nice thread discussing this issue somewhere; I believe TeamRX8 found a nice cat that flowed very well and took the abuse in stride, but it was over $1000 by itself.

I've heard good things about the RP supercat and I've been thinking about heading over there and checking their shop out (I don't live far away from them). I don't know that it is or isn't any more tolerant of high EGT than the OE cat. Turbo owners have definitely melted a few, and I know at least one person had one that didn't show a CEL but failed a NOx emissions test miserably.

i like this RP supercat alot. added a nice tone to my Mazdaspeed exhaust. never had a problem with it yet. ive only had for a few months now. btw, if you do get it, be sure and put down the extra money for the gasket and bolts kit. i had to break the stock bolts from headers to my cat, and the kit ended up saving alot of time and hassle.

People don't like to pay for extra reork.

If its a potential problem have them re-force the welds before the first install.

^^^ you can send back and they will reenforce it. It does not happen to all supercats, just SOME have it.

my weld's broke before i put it on the car.
but as jedi stated very simple fix, afew screws
and i have nothing to worry about again.

My CEL comes on sometimes with my RP Supercat, mostly when it is hot and in traffic puttering around at slow speeds. It stays off almost all winter. I used to get it to stay off in the summer by doing the reset procedure. Resetting the computer and then driving for so many seconds in each gear. It doesn't seem to work since the new flash I got in April, and I get the annoying CEL when it detects the Supercat and hope for a fix.

With the RB catback it sounds awsome when I step on it yet doesn't drone on the highway so it seems worth the annoyance to me.

My RP Supercat has 14.000 have the typical slight rattle around 4K rpms and goes away at 4150 rpms, adds a great hollowed sound in the cruising mid range, no CEL, only issue in my experience is Im on my 2nd rear O2 sensor since getting it.... but all around a great product

zokk: that's weird that you're getting a CEL from the RP supercat

I also get a cell, only when the engine is cold because i am using an obx header with out an entrance for the air pump, thtas why!

This particular cat is what BHR plans on using in its midpipes and, when all is done, it won't cost as much as people might think. Procuring parts and scoring deals is what I do for a living and after the coils and turbo kits I will then focus on the midpipes and cat-backs.;)

is that the midpipe you'll recommend for the BHR kit? sounds interesting

Like everything else, I will have specific engineering parameters upon which I design things and people are free to make their own assessments thereof. Would I prefer that people buy BHR stuff? Ya wanna keep receiving invites to parties?:lol2: That's what I plan on doing with my "riches".;)

Cool :) I didn't know you had plans in the works for an emissions legal mid-pipe. Any chance we could get the actual emissions output results from a tail-pipe test when it's ready?

I will worry about details like that when the time is near. Before the exhaust system comes the coils and turbo kit (with a small run of Pettit blower drives in there somewhere).

If you get caught they will impound the car. They may decide to keep it too!

a cat for turbo application would be very nice. it'd have to stand through hell.

Razz: it's true, in CA they CAN impound your car for not having a cat which is why something that LOOKS like a cat is the way to go. ;)
