RP super cat???runs richer or leaner?
 

I am interested in buying the rp supercat and keeping everything else stock. Does the rp cat make the car run richer or leaner then before? Will my car adjust itself with this mod or will I have to get a piggy back comp.?

BTW I have the n flash.

closed loop areas should be fine...they adjust anyway...no problem

Open loop areas need all the help they can get ....so a bit leaner will not be a problem

I have the SuperCat midpipe, and other mods. Here is my "Un-Tuned" AFR. See how pig rich I am running currently? I am installing a CZ once I get it back from Canada.

I really do not think the car is running any richer or leaner. In open loop WOT it runs whatever the PCM tells it to do based on the internal maps. You need to tune the WOT above 6K to lean this out. Hopefully by the end of the month, I'll be back to tuning.

I need some help understand the Air to fuel ratio.
I know that the ideal AFR is 14.6 so if you have a canzoomer unit you can make it 14.6? But I noticed that people who do have the canzoomer unit, have it setup around 13 AFR?

Does it have to do with the fuel having a bigger octane level if the AFR is higher?

Ideal A/F ratio will vary based on a number of parameters..like temp, fuel type, load, forced induction, etc.

If A/F is too high...under load esp...the car will ping or predetonate before the plug ignites the mixture...this is bad

Too low and it doesn't burn completely....less power and poorer emissions

For some reason...probably emissions related...Mazda thinks that we need a low 11:1 ratio at WOT in open loop. Thats not what will make the best power. Thats why tuning with a piggyback or standalone will fix that...and give better power.

I strive for 13.4 ish at WOT above 6K in my tuning if i can...with conservative timing I think its a good safe tune for a NA 8

Fuel octane rating is a measure of how easy the fuel will burn. 87 is more volatile and will detonate easier than 94....that's why with higher octane you can tune a higher A/F #
