Hello Nemesis8 - Any increased backfire issues with this Super Cat? I have the Greddy SP2 and it pops in-between shifts, would this make it worse?

Could someone who is in contact with RP set up a group buy for this product or maybe a discount code for interested forum members?

No backfire issues yet. It seems the Racing Beat is keeping everything under control.

My new tires are going on tonight, so I'll snap some installed photos from under the car and post them up. I forgot to bring my stock pipe in to get it weighed - sorry. I'll try that on Friday.

I have a feeling that my MPG might increase with this pipe. Just driving around town, I just have to barely touch the gas to get going. If I keep my foot out of it, this looks promising. I'm logging MPG since the install. First tank was 20.4 but I was hammering it allot. :D

I'm glad I don't live in Illinois :p

Remember, that my commute has 70 miles roundtrip on a four lane highway with hardly no traffic.

I'd be pretty interested in a group buy for this.

Just a side note -

Not having a CEL on one vehicle is no guarantee that it wont be tripped on another.

I have NO CAT AT ALL on my car and I get no CEL. There are plenty of you out there that get a CEL on the OEM CAT.

There seems to be a considerable tolerance on the part of the various engines with regard to sensor input and response.
YMMV.

No. Nothing at all. I simply plugged the NBO2S right into the midpipe and the car is happy.
I don't have a a good reason why.

However, I have started a thread in the "Major Horsepower Upgrades" section about the compatibility of turbo kits and CAT-less midpipes to gauge the issue.

It seems that there are quite a few cars that are NOT as receptive as mine and I want to know why.

BTW - the "O2 fooler" devices won't work on the RX-8. The simply put out a square wave that imitates the normal fluctuation of an O2 sensor in closed-loop. The RX-8 PCM is smarter than that.
It directly compares the output of the WBO2S to that of the narrow band and expects to see a direct correlation and performance with regards to rise and fall times.
I suspect that if it doesn't believe what the NBO2S is reporting, it not only sets a FFD incident, it also starts pulling lots of LONGRFT to compensate that causes the motor to run lean under load.

graet pics...dang from those angles the cat hardly looks big at all. hehe i wonder if it'll pass emmisions. to bad i havn't heard of anyone taking there high-flow cat to the station to get it tested. woudl be nice to knwo if it can. if not might as wel just go for a catles mid-pipe and switch in the stock cat once every year or tow for the test.

Rotary Performance's stuff is always overpriced, it sucks. $395 for a midpipe/high flow cat combo just seems way too much, even their midpipe is $350 when you can get others for a couple hundred.

The only other CAT+midpipe I know of is SR which goes for $479 and doesn't look as "clean". This seems to be the best DIY Bolt On out there now.

Yah the SR one is overpriced too

Actually, I should be fair, it seems like all exhaust components for the RX8 are expensive. I built an exhaust system for my RX7, FULL header back with duals, for 500. That's less than a simple catback costs for the rx8

The comment about rotary performance should've been rephrased, everything for the rx8 is overpriced right now it seems, but the things RP sells for the rx7 are slightly more than other online venders from my experience.

True, Maybe as an alterative to these bolt ones is for anyone that has put on a custom CAT+midpipe set up to post prices and part numbers. For example

“I went to XYZ.Com and bought the ACME high flow CAT part # 12345”. Took it to my local muffler shop and they charged me $000.00 to make some pipe and install it.” SR & RP do a lot of that running around for us, and we of course pay for that work. If we had a shopping list of proven parts we could get I am sure many of us could make a similar set up for less. But for me time is just as important as the price and $350.00 seems fair.

If I could make good comparable midpipe systems for cheaper than these two companies, would there be any interest? Stainless steel would still be up near these but powdercoated mild steel wouldn't be.
