Is Revi Intake worth the money?

I think the Revi intake + duct is good but the duct blocks a portion of area for the radiator.

the duct use most of the space for VFAD , and just sticking out a little at the bottom. it wont block the radiator.
The stock Radiator sucks anyway. |

it sounds nice, and looks good, but ultimately no intake for the rx-8 is really worth the money unless the price of admission is under $100, due to the gains.
the nice part about the revi is that the duct helps channel cold air into the car. That part is only $100 and you can use it with any intake, including the stock one. Just keep in mind that if you go to FI, you will not be able to use this intake with a turbo. |
depends on how precious money is to you. if it takes you weeks to save up 300 for an intake it is probably not worth it. you won't notice a change in acceleration but it will make a louder noise.

__________________ www.rxtuner.com did a dino before and after the Revi (no duct) and had a 10hp gain, mostly to the midrange, I think that is noticable. Check it out, there is a link to the article on their homepage. They were impressed. |

every 8 owner knows that it won't give you amazing results, but its good for the engine to breathe that colder air.....I heard a lot of good things about the Revi, I question the price, but it seems to get a lot of good results.... good thing about Revi is that it gives you a stock look, and it brings colder air from outside....
Another excellent intake system is the AEM CAI, it basically does the same job as the Revi except the AEM has gains on the whole band range of the RPMS.... both are good investments! |
$100/hp is no that great of an investment (based on purely a performance aspect)

5/1/06 - Revi + Ram Air - 24,000 miles + installed new spark plugs with the Revi. OEM tires, exhaust, 91 octane.
Sound Dont notice a difference. Kids dont notice a difference. Sometimes hear the sucking noise above 6,000 revs. Idle the bumble, or rev dip or whatever it is called is gone. Smooth idle now. Power feel more pull above 6,000 revs at track Mileage 1st tank city, 21mpg + 1 over standard 18-20 2nd tank freeway cruise 23mpg + 2 over standard 20-22 - 3rd tank rush hour freeway and city, 21mpg. Overall, 1-2mpg better. |
I would reccommend the AEM becasue I am sure it is lighter than the Revi + RAM scoop. It will be really loud thuogh

I got the AEM cuz u can get it under $300, and although u dont get huge gains, u get something through the whole band as fastnmean8 says. throttle response got nicer too
personally, i like how the aem looks... a straight polished pipe revi is a great piece but i chose aem over it |

First, when people say " I like my car to suck in cold air" as a decision point to purchase a new intake, you need to be aware that you car comes stock with a CAI (Cold Air Intake) System from the factory..it is as Cold air as cold air can get. Second, Some people say they enjoy the increased sound.....if you want a louder intake sound..remove the VFAD (Variable Fresh Air Duct). I believe that removing the VFAD provides better performance too....but Racing Beat does not agree. Third, Racing Beat's intake system will cost ~$400.00 for 3.5HP Gain... you can get 2 HP gain by enlarging the oval inlet into the airbox...this in the inlet that the VFAD fits inside of....and would be a very cost easy and effective modification. Fourth, Get a High Flow Drop in filter such as K&N or aFe for $60. They are re-usable. + 1/2HP..maybe more Fifth remove one of the Mesh insert screens around the MAF. This will net you 1HP My Guess is that you can get close to the same results (3.5HP) of the expensive intake kits with a drop in filter, removal of the VFAD, remove one mesh screen and enlarging the oval into the air filter box. Last Thursday I was drag racing with a fellow that had a WRX with 20 psi of boost. I asked him why he was using the stock air box. He says he has tried all different type of intakes...cones, SHort rams etc....and that he gets the best results on the drag strip with a K&N Hi-Flow filter with the Stock air box. |

I have an AEM and love the saound but I am going to go back with my stock airbox and modify it. It will give better result with Mass air senor becuase my AEM tubing is only 3 in. and the MAS is capibrate for the factory 3.5 in. tube. Because I get alot of Backfire with the AEM CAI

You get backfire from the AEM? I had a cracked pipe because I bought it off of a friend, and the only problem I had was it sounded like a hamster hahah.... but I called up AEM and explained to them my situation, and through one of their vendors I got a brand new one, I just paid shipping :rock: |
anyone have a picture of the VFAD? I am not sure what i am looking at.
