Real Cold Air Intake for RX8 with Pictures!

Found this a couple of days back.

http://www.trust-power.com/mazda/rx8...r/image009.gif

Looks like some one has done it. Its about 31,290 yen or 298 dollars.

Looks like it is really cold air unlike a lot of the other stuff out.

Thats a really long intake tube. Got any other info bout it?

robertdot 07-07-2004 12:53 PM

I think Japan8 mentioned this before. Maybe he has additional info (or not)?

Anyway, sucks for US RX-8s, cause we have an oil cooler there... Seems like there was one that put the intake in front of the radiator. That would work for US versions.

i think thats the greddy version, i might be mistake but its suppose to one of the better cold air intakes out there, with identical functions of the stock setup.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I can tell, the RX-8 already comes from the factory with a cold-air intake. I can see it in the mouth.

this intake has been posted several times

isn't it like 1k and doesn't fit on US rx8's

Yeah I started a thread a while back its the Trust intake. Ment to be proper cold air, and they claim a I think 7hp increase with no power losses down low, something to do with the fact the length is tuned in the same way the stock air box is tuned. Hiemlholtz tuning or something? rotaryGod has written up on the theory of this tuning somewhere. Its about $500 over here in NZ, so I think in america you could prob get itt for $250-$300? Im not 100% of the exchange rate.
I plan to get one it looks good and the length tuning theory seems sound to me. I think it would be much better than the HKS/K&N style ones that sit in the engine bay.
Japan8 has also done a translation of the trust japan page for it, with info somewhere on these forums.

I did not know that the U.S. rx8's had a oil cooler there, but I got the impression that this filter replaces the intake box and resonator that came with the car.

No it is not 1k, it's about 300 USD, a lot cheaper than some of the so called cold air intakes out there.

Yes, this is the Trust CAI in Japan. I don't believe it will work on our US cars because 1) the second oil cooler issue and 2) the US version has a larger crash beam in the front. From the looks of this intake there is no crash beam to get in the way, or it has to be removed. If you have taken off your front bumper already then you've seen the monsrosity of a crash beam we have. Removing it saves about 40lbs! Though you will sacrifce some saftey in a front end collision.
