RB Inlet duct vs VFAD
 

Quick question. I'm considering getting a Racing Beat Inlet Duct and keeping the OEM intake box. Does installation of the RB Inlet Duct get rid of the VFAD or just connect to it. I have read that there is some debate about the benefits of removing or leaving the VFAD if the engine is otherwise unmodded. So I was just wondering if removing the VFAD was or was not part of the RB inlet duct installation. Eventually I would probably get a Cobb AP but that would probably be as far as I go with the engine mods. Currently running the OEM intake box without the baffles and only one screen.

yes you cant have both- one or the other

yes , you get rid of the vfad .
If you fit the duct make sure you seal it to the stock box for max. ram air effect . I believe the duct does improve power at higher speeds - i had it for years and was very happy with it .

OK, last weekend I went to do my Spring Intake cleaning. Guess what I found in the REVi box? About a 1/2 cup of volcanic cinders. Yep - rocks. The DOT uses them in my neck of the Pacific NW for black ice. Plus about a 1/4 cup of sand and bark mixture. We have 100,000 lb chip trucks and logging trucks all over the highways out here.

So, my front bumper is a mess also. I'm thinking about removing the duct, and selling it to somebody in warmer weather...

I have this setup and will be getting the Green Filter rather than the K&N.

No I haven't gotten one yet, I'm still in the market for a RB inlet duct.

Someone shoot me a PM I need a duct really bad it was 95here yesterday and I have the k&n intake so I'm runinn hot!

I mounted the RB Duct this weekend to my otherwise stock '05 Shinka M/T, removing the VFAD of course.

I was a bit dismayed that it's not possible to mate the duct to the stock intake box. There's about an inch gap that presumably is molded into RB's REVi intake, but not the stock.

I didn't notice when I test ran the vehicle after installation, but this warm morning there's a CEL. Is this because the VFAD is gone and the MAF/computer is expecting a VFAD restricted flow on startup?

I sense a slight roughness, but otherwise it is working fine with the VFAD removed. Of course the CEL has me concerned. My stock air box is clean with a new OEM filter.

Also, I capped the VFAD vacuum line, although this was not discussed in the directions. Is this related?

^hmmm you should get it read...if you plugged the line, everything should be fine, the duct in NO WAY should throw a CEL...

Thanks Dozer, I will. But is the duct - air box gap an issue? The box is of course open to the air at a point anyway so I wouldn't think so. Obviously not ideal.

well i never had fitment issues like that with mine...i guess it wouldnt be an issue, it IS directing most of the air anyways...

The upside to this whole experience (I always try to look for silver linings) is that I can now dismount my front bumper in no time at all. ;)

also - I would go for the K&N drop in filter with this duct as you WILL get a lot more crap in your filter and the K&N is easily cleaned .

Thanks Brettus - I thought of this but just didn't want to commit so soon to cutting up my VFAD, just in case. But I did use the VFAD's foam collar in like fashion on the duct itself.

Surprising that RB doesn't provide a duct adapter for use with the stock air box.
