Racing Beat vs AEM??

Hey everyone, I'm deciding between a racing beat revi intake w/ air duct or the AEM intake. I looked up a couple videos for sound and the AEM sounds really really good. Are there any downsides to the AEM compared to the Racing Beat? The 3.5-5.8 hp gains from the racing beat seem to be very sincere and legitimate but im not so sure about the "8.5" hp gains from the AEM. My real question is are there any any power losses with the AEM?? and also any other downsides?

You probably wont see any hp gain with an intake, if you do it would be minimal. I believe the racing beat one is the best, but everyone has their own opinions.

Searching would lead you to all the info on this, been covered 1000 times.
It's all personal preference between those two.
I wouldn't stray anywhere else however.

im good with no gains just as long as there are definitely no losses. Thats what my concern with the AEM is.

im def sticking to either AEM/RB...and also i apologize if this is a redundant topic which im sure it is. thank for your input

Are you geting it for looks, sound, performance??/
I was also in the same boat as you revi/aem/ms,
and I bought autoexe sport box and I still use the stock box and filter, go figure.

i def like the looks and sound of the AEM and the thing i like most about the RB is that theyre very honest with their power ratings. as long as im positive i wont see losses of power from the AEM id like to get that. i guess im looking for reassurance haha.

The AEM is the intake that yields the best gains, although they are minimal.
Just go with it, it's a nice way to shed some nose weight too!

The AEM/MS looks very cool. Get a sock for it though, and enjoy.

Jedi54 02-26-2011 05:14 PM

I've had both intakes on my car and dyno'd higher with the Racing Beat but it was sooo close that it's within a margin of error.
it comes down to personal preference though. the RB will fit perfectly, look 'stock-ish' while the AEM leaves that part of the engine bay looking rather bare.

I switched to the AEM simply because the Revi Duct wouldn't fit well behind my new bumper but I made sure to pick up the intake tray box from BHR to make it look more 'complete'

a sock for the AEM?

i kinda like the openness of the AEM..i think it looks racy and cool...i read about some problems with water tho...would a box eliminate that problem?

Chad D. 02-26-2011 05:24 PM

water problems go away with a sock, unless your driving in a pond or something.

^.............mind the car washes as well.
It has happened with the AEM on occasion.

Chad D. 02-26-2011 05:34 PM

yes /\

I always wash my car at home or in a spray bay and forgot about that one.

40thanniversaryrx8 02-26-2011 05:44 PM

def something to be wary of. ill certainly keep that in mind. i rarely take it to a car wash. i usually do the spray bay or at home so hopefully it wont be too much of an issue. thanks again guys you've bee really helpful.

Do you have numbers from before either intake and then after? I am curious what numbers actual people are getting rather than what the companys say.

Jedi54 02-26-2011 08:17 PM

I never dyno'd with the OEM intake.

xexok 02-26-2011 09:14 PM

When you did dyno what performance mods did you have at the time, and what were the numbers? If you remember.

Jedi54 02-26-2011 09:36 PM

tough to give a direct answer since there's been a lot of tuning done on it the past few years.
4 years ago I dyno'd at 190 whp with RB intake and exhaust
after tuning I hit 205 but added a few other power mods
AEM dyno'd at 204 with similar mods and tune

xexok 02-26-2011 11:04 PM

Alright thanks. I figured it would be tough to give an exact number with whatever mods as things are always changing. A ballpark figure was fine, appreciate it.
