Racing beat intake

A guy offered to sell me his racing beat intake for 150 today. Only has 5k on it. I already have a typhoon intake (I understand it takes some hp away). Should i buy the racing beat intake?

Racing Beat intake > K&N hot air intake

Do you still have your stock intake? That would be free and a power gain at the same time. RB doesn't rob you of power, but it won't make you any more than stock either.

To me, $150 for no gain isn't worth consideration. Though if you don't have a stock intake, and can't get one cheaply, then $150 to recover what the Weapon R is stealing might be worth it.

No i purchased without the stock. RB gained like 6 or 7hp?

No, the Mazdaspeed/AEM intake is the only off-the-shelf intake that produces any power gains, and it's like 2-3hp. A few intakes, like the RB, duplicate the stock intake no gain, but no loss either. Plenty of others lose power, the Weapon R and K&N being the two worst offenders.

The stock intake is REALLY good.

The product that may help is RB Duct. It relies on the speed of the car to funnel air into the air filter box. Gains can't be dyno proven because the car isn't in motion when on the dyno. The VFAD can be modifed to make a tight fit to the oem air box. There is also a DIY on how to modify your stock air box to get a couple of HP. This has not been proven on a dyno, but a ScanGuage reported an increase.

The typhoon is designed by K&N not Weapon R. I would definitely trade up if you don't have the stock one, or even if you do.

Oh whoops, thought he mentioned the weapon R in there....

Probably another thread that is blurring together with this one...

Our test results are as follows:

Stock vs Racing Beat

REVi Intake Adds An Average 1.95 HP Over The Stock System - 2000-8900 RPM Range

Hmm. Ok.

Dyno? :)

TeamRX8 08-16-2012 11:42 AM

I would recommend the RB intake with RB air duct over the AEM/MS intake, I would actually recommend the OE intake with RB air duct over it too

Well ddawson88, there you go.

I would prefer the Racing Beat intake over K&N anytime. Buy it and then purchase the Ram air duct. Install both at the same time and enjoy.
