Racing Beat Duct to factory airbox
Not sure if this has been done before but thought I would mention it.
Was trying to figure out how to get the RB duct to seal with the factory airbox & realised that the end of the Vfad may do the trick . Here are some pictures of what I did . |
not bad. as long as you don't have to go back to using the VFAD. lol

beers  |
that's a good idea, I might just steal that idea...
|
that looks pretty good, seen other ways to do it but that looks like the easiest
|
I did the exact same thing Brettus. I guess great minds think a like. Has worked very well for me; no problems and it's been several months.
|
duct tape is easy and cheap
|
Might try that when I get the cold air intake, good idea.
|
Noob question: Wats the VFAD? Only thing that worries me about these mods is that somehow I feel like it'll hurt the car in the long run, but I agree with everyone sayin intakes are basically for sound purposes only..

vfad - variable freash air duct
Its all the piping in front of the air cleaner . I really liked the RB duct - i'm sure it helped at high speed . |

its the long tube that sits on the inside of the bumper. racing beat says it's there just to muffle intake noise in the lower rpms. taking it out wont hurt the car. |
vfad is for noise abatement below 5250 rpm.

Does the racing beat Duct make it easier to flood the engine, since it makes the inflow lowerto the ground? Just trying to avoid hydrolocking, or however somethin like that would take place in a rotary... [happened to my bro's mustang cuz of his CAI]

i live in louisiana and it rains allllllll the time here. ive had my duct/RB CAI for almost a year and have driven through just about every rain condition out there, including hurrican gustav and have not had a single issue about water getting into the intake. |
not the mention it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to hydrolock a rotary...

its low, but now that low. its about where your factor grill is. if you get water in your duct at that level then you were doing something you shouldnt be doing, like doing 50mph through a flooded street or something.

lol, yep i had a coworkers sister do something similar with her pontiac G6. she got mad at my co-worker over some bs, and decided to speed through her flooded street. she didnt get far :squint: |
water going through the engine will clean the carbon out. not a lot at a time though.
|
Thanks for this tip Brettus; I did exactly the same.
