Race cat with turbo?

I just ordered alot of stuff (maybe too much?) :p for my 8, including the GReddy turbokit, type r/s bov, oil pan, oil catch tank, Borla catback, bodykit and some other exterior stuff.... (Thats what happens when you have too much spare time...) But since the Borla has 3" piping it feels like the cat is sitting there as a plug in whole. So Im thinking about getting a steel race cat... Will this work with the turbo and the maps GReddy provides?

how much total you spend for those stuff?

I have an SR Motorsports hi-flow cat with my unit. Most of us with the turbo & hi-flow cat/race pipe have run into some annoying backfire issues. Kit was made to run with stock cat. I am in the process of leaning out the de-accel to alleviate that issue.

Fanman, I finally ordered my turbo! I also have the sr high flow cat. I ran a graph with Hymees scansnylser and my car goes very lean when i let up on the gas pedal. Is that what you are talking about to keep from backfiring? How is your map coming? you gonna post it right? :)

No, actually it pops from running too rich. The extra fuel is not getting burned up until it passes through the cat already & you get that pop because the fuel doesn't burn up like it is supposed to. If you are running leaner that may not be such a bad thing in regards to the backfire (but you don't want to get detonation. I will post it when I get my car back soon.

great, i am sure i will need some help :) By the way, mine already "pops" with the sr cat and racing beat exhaust. is that the noise or is it a huge "bang" type backfire?

Seems like there could be some issues with the hi flow cat then... Maybe IŽll just wait and see what you guys come up with for solution. :)

I have a stock car and I get that "pop" especially on a cold crank w/o even touching the pedal to rev the motor. Anyone know why it does that?

Fanman 06-26-2005 12:28 PM

Running rich, & your cat is cold. It is not hot enough to burn off the fuel yet.

With the turbo the backfiring is far more pronounced, then when I just had my hi-flow cat & RB catback exhaust. It is literally a bang, not just the de-accel pop, and it would be random. I could be driving along cruising at 70 mph on the freeway and it will pop a few times.
