Putting my stock intake back on
It was a combination of the throttle hesitation and the freakin NOISE....
Which one did yo have? I'm back on my stock too
The Typhoon
Im keeping my typhoon on
I dont have rough idle with my a/t |
I have no rough idle, there is a noticeable hesitation in throttle response. The motor doesn't "spin up" a smoothly as with the stock intake.
I did the same thing and pulled my typhoon off and put the stock box back on with ta green filter. There was too much hesitation and the noise was unreal, thing is louder than my exhuast.
whats the green filter you guys are talking about?
It a drop in filter much like the K&N.
Yep green rocks.I feel for all of you that bought intakes. If you like the noise i guess its one thing, but if you read most reputable companies they tell you theres no real power to be gained.
I don't see a part number for the Rx-8 on their site.
Did you have to call in to order one? |
so are you guys saying the typhoon makes weird noises that normal intakes dont make?
Yes, the K&N intake is considerably louder than the stock intake. On one hand it makes the car sound a lot meaner but it can be a little tough to live with day to day.
K&N sound clips |
by normal intake i dont mean the stock intake
No one has removed the RE intake then?

You mean, all the companies that don't have intakes for sale will tell you they don't provide any extra power. I trust that about as much as I trust the companies who are providing intakes when the claim power gains.
This is why it is important to have independent dyno verification of vendor claims. So far, the only independent dyno of an intake that I've seen was done on the Rotary Extreme, and it verified that there was a power gain in the upper rev range, pretty much what was claimed by RE. Is it worth it in a bang for the buck sense? Everyone gets to decide that for themselves. jds Originally posted by WTF no turbo Yep green rocks.I feel for all of you that bought intakes. If you like the noise i guess its one thing, but if you read most reputable companies they tell you theres no real power to be gained. |

Put things in perspective. For me, the 2 HP or so gain at high RPM from the Typhoon intake was not worth the downgrade in throttle response and especially all the freakin racket it makes.

Are you implying that the Typhoon system makes sounds that normal intakes dont? Or just that the intake gets real loud? |
It sounds like a Geo Metro with open headers.... Except louder!
Honestly, it sounds pretty good for an intake. Like I said, it just LOUD. I feel like I'm frawing attention just with the sound and I hate that. In another thread, Mazda Beat said in 90+ db from the drivers seat. |
Sorry, drawing attention.....

PLease do. I rapped my entire intake in DynaMat and it didn't help.
Ok, you motivated me. :D I just posted a DIY thread on how to do this, here. Hope it helps!
