Power Mod EMS for N/A tune - installed

I've had this EMS sitting at home for weeks while I wait for bolt on parts from RX7store. Got sick of waiting so decided to install . I have not done any tuning with it yet ( all the maps are set to 0 from factory) but can report that so far there are no issues with the way the car runs.
Install was very straightforward & looks pretty tidy to me.
Hoping to get some conservative MAPS from Rotormaster later today that will a least give me some performance gains to enjoy while I wait for the other parts.
Will dyno tune at that time .

Cost is cheaper than Interceptor x but more than E-manage Ultimate. This is the same EMS that Rotormaster use in thier supercharged car.

Edit - just added dyno done yesterday 30th Aug
Blue line is factory tune
Black line is Rotormaster mild tune which is minus 10% fuel at high RPM
Green line a map I played with leaning it out by 14% at high RPM
No tuning was done on the dyno as was getting flywheel installed & did not have time. Hope to tune with scanalyser myself then go back next week for a full tune
Notes :
first graph is in KW & shows AFRs second graph shows HP & Tourque
got a 7-8 hp gain at top end but needs some smoothing out of AFRs
could not go past 8300 rpm as speed limiter kicked in (185km/hr in 4th)
so could add another 5 or so hp

Before you slam my car as weak ass . This is a Dyno Dynamics which typically shows readings approx 15hp lower than the ones used in US. Taking that into consideration would give a peak around 190 by US figures.

Edit : 22/9/06 Dyno tuned chart added - see pg2 in thread for more detail

So does it intercept the signal, or alter it? Basically, with this, do you have to worry about LTFT?

zoom44 07-31-2006 08:21 PM

remember the ric shaw unit? same thing

It can work either way . can control injectors directly or modify factory signal.

I'm told it is improved since "ric shaw" but not sure how .

Just been talking with Joe at Rotormaster . It seems there IS a conservative tune in there already.
Was not going to mention that the car feels stronger mid to high RPM range because I thought I must have imagined it ................... :Eyecrazy:

piggybacks are like, so last year ... :cwm27:

Been running this for a couple of weeks now & happy to report the car runs perfectly .
No issues with idle /AC etc . Have played with the tuning a little ( using info from other charts i've seen here ) and it is very easy to tune . Currently trying to get parts together to make the AFR readout work so I can tune "on the fly" .
I've read all the issues people seem to have with E manage & interceptor - this unit does not seem to have those issues - at least in N/A setup anyway.

mysql101 08-13-2006 06:25 PM

what issues are we having with the ultimate and int-x?

Brettus 08-13-2006 08:32 PM

are you saying there are no issues ?

mysql101 08-13-2006 08:37 PM

I'm not saying anything - you said that you don't see the issues those using the Ultimate and int-x are having. I just wanted to know what you're referring to.

MM has his ultimate working flawlessly, and I know of many int-x users who are also up and running, and quite happy with the results.

where can i purchase the power mod from?

Brettus 08-13-2006 10:48 PM

Heard of issues with idle & AC on the interceptor & the emanage seemed to be something that required a lot of mucking around to get right - thats all I was meaning . Was not trying to slam them- they obviously can be made to work well.

I sent an email to DNAmotorsport earlier today, and guess what, I have already gotten a reply :) These guys/girls seems to be very service minded, and told me it was possible to use their ECU in my European RX-8 :) The only thing left now is a dynochart....

Brettus 08-30-2006 06:29 PM

Dyno added to first post

Red Devil 08-31-2006 08:49 AM

Do you have a permanent CEL with this, or in the future with FI will you be getting a permanent CEL?

Brettus 08-31-2006 02:57 PM

In N/A form you only modify settings in open loop as there are no gains in clossed loop anyway . For Turbo you can trick the factory ecu to think you are in open loop at lower throttle settings. So - no cel

Brettus, have you fitted your agency pulley yet, ie was it installed for dyno run?

Regards

Rexi

Brettus 08-31-2006 10:29 PM

no - fitiing that tomorrow along with RB duct . Then back to the dyno for a tune next week or the following . Hope to be able to show a before & after all mods dyno then.

rexi 08-31-2006 11:19 PM

Looking forward to your opinions of the pulley when you install.

regards
Rexi

Brettus 09-02-2006 01:14 AM

Have installed pulley & duct now . I can't really tell any diference :(
However -as a result of all my mods the car feels stronger for sure . Just did some rolling acceleration tests against my mates Toyota Soarer . Pre mods we were always neck & neck from about 45mph up to 100mph . Now I get about 3 car lengths on him . So - yes it is quicker .

get your scanalizyer yet..

the intake air temp drop as you get over 100 km is impressive.
