Old school "turbo"

I found more information on Turboneque.

"At the touch of a button, it would add an extra 1,300 horsepower (yes that's one thousand, three hundred)."

a turbo is just one small step from becoming a jet engine

So, cars could fly someday...lol

WhiteDealershipRice 07-11-2011 03:37 AM

Not a turbo... Actually a gas turbine (but VERY close in design to a liquid fuel rocket engine)
"Jet" engines generate "Thrust" (the kinds of engines that propel comercial jetliners & fighter jets)

Gas turbines use the same principle, but their main function is to generate torque (the actual spinning core of the gas turbine is mated to a transmission to capture the power from the engine for useful work. this is the engine that turbine powered "jet" helicopters use (also Jay Leno's Jet powered motorcycle, as it uses a retired helicopter engine)

if you add your own oxygen (be it compressed gas, or the liquid variety) that turboneque engine would be considered a liquid fueled rocket engine

it is..

When the switch was flipped, liquid oxygen and a rocket fuel named Thermolene were fed to the supercharger.
Thermolene is Isopropyl Nitrate. Nasty stuff. Pretty corrosive to most plastics/skin, and it burns with virtually no color making it interesting to keep around

Where's the problem? Just keep a pig near the trunk. When you smell bbq it's time to run out of the car... :)
