Oil level sensor upgrade

Hi all,

I'm just gauging interest from owners for an oil level sensing system for the RX8.

This is what the poll options mean :

o The dipstick is OK for me, thanks : well, no comment needed here I think.

o Single point level sensor, with led : the system would just tell you when you reach the minimum level (or any other level you want to work to), well before the original sensor would light up! It might actually use the original led on the dashboard. Might incorporate a led warning preventing overfill so you can actually top up without using the dipstick.
Price estimate : say 150 - 200 USD

o Continuous level sensor, with bargraph : the system would give you an actual reading of your oil level (when engine is not running, obviously), and would display the result in some graphical way. Overfill warning included too, no dipstick needed to top up. Price estimate : say 250-350 USD

Don't hesitate to give your comments please.

Thanks,

Fabrice

The Single Point level sensor would be nice. Especially since it's really hard to get the dip stick back in when it's dark out without a flashlight to see under the hood ;)

RX-8s are already equipped with a minimum oil level warning light - why would I ever pay $150 extra for functionality that is already standard equipment in the car???? (reference Page 5-38 of owners manual in North America)

Gordon,

I'm well aware of this low level sensor.

Does it come on on your car BEFORE you reach the min level? Because it does not on mine and on most other RX8 I know of.
And would you really use that level as your ref level to tell you when to top upl?

I'm talking about something that would tell you : the oil level reached the level you chose as your ref for top-up, and also, tells you where to stop to prevent overfill.

Thanks for your comments by the way.

If its only 50-75USD more, full LED graph. It would look sick.

I would be interested in the Continuous level sensor, with bargraph. Where were you thinking of mounting it?
