Oil Filter Relocation Kit with Oil Cooler
1 Attachment(s)
I found this kit it is 299.00.... Do you guys think it would be worth it? Or should i find other parts and make my own kit?
|
Can you not reach the one you have stock, or just want added convenience?
|
Mainly for the oil Cooler but I think I would like it better relocated.... since I have my turbo
|
I think Maddog has a 3rd oil cooler. I'm wondering where you would mount it though. With the intercooler in the middle, and one oil cooler on each side of that, I guess I dont' see where you would put it.

 :banghead:

Mazdaspeed has a oil cooler kit out. It's on RX8Garage.net. Not sure where it's located or any other info.
|
Why would you need a 3rd oil cooler for? The one that Mazda Speed sells is an upgrade.

I believe the mazdaspeed oil cooler is meant for an upgrade for the automatics, since they only have one. Looks like it goes on the side.
|
Mine is 28"x3"x3". It sits just behind and below the intercooler.

The kit you will see for sale as the 'Mazdaspeed Oil Cooler Kit' is pointless on a US/North American RX8 MT, we already have it, the car in other parts of the world comes with only 1 oil cooler, the Mazdaspeed RX8 comes with 2, the Mazdspeed Upgrade Kit is so that people with a Non-Mazdaspeed RX8 can upgrade the system for track use, or just added protection. The Mazdaspeed Upgrade Kit is just a 2nd oil cooler, its not any thicker, doesnt hold more volume, its just a 2nd one, setup to mount on the other side of the car...
As far as the kit you posed, I paid 260 shiped a while ago for that (over a year ago) and used it on my miata, It was a pretty good kit, and made a good 20* dent in my oil temps on track days. While it could fit the RX8, I dont see the need, unless you run the car in a really hot area or you have added FI or something) Also the core on that kit is kinda small, it was pretty good for the 1.8L in the miata, but the RX8 motor makes a lot more BTU's of heat, and I would go with a bigger core. You should be able to buy an adapter plate for the oil filter location and add a 3rd oil cooler or relocate the filter, using oil lines and a core you source from elsewhere....it would cost about the same or less. If your turbo, and your running the stock nose, its already pretty taxed. Radiator, AC, Intercooler, and 2 oil coolers. |
ky,
where did you get the kit???? beers |

Double the size of that cooler and then use 2 of them. Then you'll have enough oil cooler.

wow,
such abuse, i love it. if i can find the site i think options were there for different sized coolers. if not so shoot me. i think i am going to stay out of the compotion section... i think just adding more oil would help some. then again i am fighting sudden power loss syndrome now. got bigger issues. beers  |
Since the rotary dissipates nearly as much heat through the oil system as the coolant system, it never hurts to have more oil cooling ability.

I REALLY think my MazdaSpeed oil cooler is the same as the Mazda oil cooler on the RHS. - so no need to change~! How much is the R hand side spare part oil cooler in the US, I wonder??? I may be cheaper. No need for 3rd oil cooler even for turbo in endurance race. I think the oil temp is ok enough, if more is need, as RG said - get a bigger oil cooler. Stock (MazdaSpeed is 13 lines). HKS is 15 lines. |
