OEM air filter

I used search, but I either suck at using it, or it's not on here...

How long do the OEM air filters last, on average? I live in Idaho, so there's no environmental thing that will clog up the air filter fast or anything to that affect.

*edit: I should mention, I'm posting this here, because once I need to replace it, I'm going to get a different filter... K&N or Green, still undecided which.

replace every 30k

Where the hell is Shini when I need him?
Seems to be MIA at the moment!

nycgps 01-01-2008 07:55 PM

Mazda saids about 30K

but for me, I say 15 K the MOST.

Filters cost less than an engine, u know.

What makes K&N last longer, how much longer, and is there much of a tradeoff with performance there? I got the impression that with care, they both lasted about the same time. Only reason I'm upgrading is because I do autocross, and it's one of the easier, cheaper switches to make and stay in the stock class

filters r not hard 2 change. dealers in cali recommend every year or 15k. and cali is considered extreme environment.

so a lil common sense can keep ur car happy. if living in a cold climate with less floating dust particles, it only makes sense that the filter will stay cleaner longer.

say u live in a rainy place like seattle, ur filter will hardly get dirty. so just a refreshing of the filter is still a benefit when u see 20k or so.

hope this helps...

k&n lasts longer because you can clean it and re oil it yourself

VolcomStoneX 01-03-2008 07:51 AM

i just ordered one from a local auto parts store, but its taking forever for them to get it, what kind of oil do i use? and where can i find it?

Thanks

nycgps 01-03-2008 08:09 AM

The K&N drop in filter itself should cost around 40-50 something bux.

For the oil, you can get their K&N filter recharge kit. it comes with the spray to clean the filter. and the oil so you can re-oil it afterwards.
