NRS Ceramic Apex Seals (1-Piece, OEM Height)

Received these today for my 2010 Turbo Build which I'll be posting a thread about soon.
1-Piece, OEM Height Ceramic, no machining of rotors necessary...
Enjoy.

Richie,

I am very curious to see how well the machining and tolerances are on these seals. Could you do us a favor and post a pic like this ? That is a ground parallel underneath.

Kane 07-07-2010 12:43 AM

Good Choice,

talk to CRH turblown, he speced them for my engine, and I know they were stupid close, like .0001 inches from each other. But my paperwork is at home.

Brettus 07-07-2010 01:03 AM

these the same ones you used Kane ?

Kane 07-07-2010 01:28 AM

Yeah mine were taller than OEM (FD height), but same company.

NRS makes good stuff.

Brettus 07-07-2010 01:29 AM

well at least we know they will hold to 220whp .....

Kane 07-07-2010 01:34 AM

Lolz.

Cleaned up a few and added a few pics.
Kane's type is the taller one on the bottom of the pic.

Like these, NRS at the top. All used seals, don't know the others application but NRS was in a 600+ hp road race car in Australia.

I,m guessing the taller ones would be more robust in an FI application ?

halimsteven 07-07-2010 10:35 PM

i almost bought NRS ceramic seals, but it was really expensive, and i had to mill it deeper to fit it in.
i decided to get RA superseals instead and deepened the rotor....
my new engine now is with KDR in PA, being worked on, ported with RA superseals..
i will use it with my turbo set up....
btw, what are you going to use this set up for? is it going to be for FI or stock?

or a waste of money depending on who you talk to

Kane 07-08-2010 07:19 AM

Taller = FD sized seals.

I got them cause they didn't make 8 OEM ones at the time. And then when they started I couldn't wait. No worries, I like my bigger seals!!! HAHA

didnt mean to imply it was a waste of money for you to get the taller seals, thats what was availible. i guess i was trying to say either way, waste of money for most builds depending on who you ask.

i personally dont see how a nonpurpose built car could justify the huge expense at the risk of still replacing ALL the same parts next time you go pop

Kane 07-08-2010 08:39 AM

The expense isn't that bad really, extra $500 bucks.

But hey; I like mine. Mostly I like the one piece design.

i did not try to imply any opinion of my own towards the seals, just saying.

that said, IMO they still are a waste for 99%+ of the types of builds/rebuilds i have seen here. but take it for a grain of salt since there's no reason for me to have a respected voice on the matter

These are for my FI build. Here are some photos and build specs:
Custom SS manifold, 4" downpipe, dumptube. All wrapped with Inconel heat shielding. (fabricated by Elliot @ Turblown.net), Tial 60mm wastegate, Dual Tial 50mm blow-off-valves.

Adaptronic e420c (piggyback) EMS (MAP based)

...etc, etc, etc, too much more to list here, will be starting a build thread soon...

8upbad 07-08-2010 03:16 PM

This is the first I have read about bigger seals in the 8.... You hear about them all the time with the 7 crowd but I assumed that was because they can make it over 350 hp... (way over). I can't wait to see this build progress. Good luck man!

RX8YA 07-08-2010 03:33 PM

What is this custom setup supposed to yield HP wise?

at least 220whp ;) ...or if all goes as planned 400+whp on pump gas and 500-700whp on C16/Q16 or VP Import gas and NGK-R6725-115 plugs. I'm currently looking for a custom UIM to bolt to my 90mm throttle body, not using the drive-by-wire. Other than the one that is under development by BHR I haven't had any luck finding someone who has made one (besides ChrisRX8PR), Hogan's Manifolds said they'd build me one of their custom sheet metal aluminum manifolds for $2,200...I'm contemplating it at the moment...

RX8YA 07-08-2010 04:14 PM

Interesting cant wait for your build thread and your results 220whp giving Kane a run for his money lol.
