NRG Oil Catch Can

I purchased an NRG universal oil catch can
Attachment 227358 I was scoping out places to drop this in my engine bay and really could only see 2 locations where it could work. #1 is where the windshield washer fluid reservoir is if it wasnt there. #2 is actually on one of the bolts on the back of my revi intake. Would it vibrate like all-hell if I put it on one of the bolts on my revi? Theres a grommet that the engine cover snaps into and there are 2 bolts on the back of it. It looks like it could fit there but unfortunately anywhere I put it, I would only be able to utilize 1 bolt. No location allows me to use 2 because the bracket they supply is pretty funky. Any suggestions on where to place it in the bay? Because of how the plastic tube needs to be I don't have the option of placing it horizontally. |
Remove your air pump. You'll have a nice big open area for it then ;)

Team, My SSV is clogged like no other. Some one is helping me unclog it next weekend. I'd like to put the catch can in so I dont get the oil buildup. I know for a fact that oil is entering my intake as well because I can always see after I drive it that the line coming off the filler neck is wet. Shell, I take it you mean going the RB pump/delete route? I guess if worse comes to worse I could do that. I know it's 50/50 on peoples' opinions when it comes to catch cans. It's essentially a bit cheaper than going the updated SSV gasket/part install route so I'd like to try. |
If you're a MY 2004/2005 a catch can is pretty much required. Even NA I was dumping a little bit of oil into my MAF tube -- not fun. It's a helluva lot cheaper than trying to go the TSB route.
RE: RB Pump delete -- all it ends up being is a silly little block plate. Be careful with the existing bolts if you go this route... We spent a good 30 minutes coaxing mine out with WD40 soak time. |
I always wondered .... why not do what the s2 does .... the vac line from the filler neck to a t-fitting ... split to smaller tubes that go to the LIM nipples, then just cap off the intake?

I believe that's basically what the S1 TSB calls for. I read up on it quite some time ago and said screw it... especially after adding boost.

I suppose the material and size (diameter) of the tube would be the most important to know, since it has to withstand heat and exposure to the engine oil. So if someone did this not using the materials from the TSB, please speak up :) Thanks. |

My question wasn't really a question. Those changes were to address condensation building up in the oil sump causing the milky look on the dipstick. Oil in the intake is a symptom of an expiring engine. My 2005, which i bought off the dealership floor and have primarily used for competition only, has the original factory system (was never updated) and has never had even one tiny drop of oil spit into the intake.

Then my engine has been expiring for about 40,000 miles.
If you look up the TSB Team mentioned there should be some pictures and part #s for reference. |
how else do you explain blow-by so bad that it carries oil vertically upward as well as horizontally from the oil sump through a maze of tubes and chambers and finally into the intake
this simply doesn't happen on a properly sealing engine, nor will it ever like many other RX8s your engine makes less than optimum power regardless, those OE parts will change nothing I forgot to mention that for the first three or so years in factory-stock class competition I ran 1 extra qt of engine oil too, later I stopped after figuring out it wasn't needed, still never had oil in the intake so as usual most of the stuff most people ramble on about on this forum is often uninformed baloney . |
