A new mix?
Ok guys this is my first foray into pre-mixing... There are UNGODLY threads on this topic and I couldn't quite seem to get my question answered... so heres my idea...
I started using X-1R "Liquid Nitrous" Octane booster this last week https://host8.successfulhosting.com/...hp?type=D&id=6 (cant get better than 91 octane where I live but I think I'd like it just as well with 93) Also I recently switched over to royal Purple 5w-20 must say I'm very happy with the results... I'd like to MIX (for a one bottle adder) a little Octane booster (still deciding which is the best brand) and some RP For the perfect pre-mix thats a little more than the standard mix... So heres my question... First off... can/should this be done? as in does oil and octane boost react poorly together? Also what Kind of quantities/ gasoline to oil to octane booster ratio... Any help or even a link to a post that might cover this would greatly help... Thank you so much... And hopefully My new "Renesis Mix" will work out well... And it could be something that everyone uses |
Well, you're mixing octane booster with 4 stroke oil so that is different. Everyone else is premixing 2-stroke oil because it is designed to burn.

Why do you want to add an octane booster? I don't understand the point unless you have a problem with detonation?
Also, in addition to the 4-stroke issue, you don't have any type of lubricious cleaner to prevent carbon build-up, eg, FP+ or MMO or Lucas UCL. |
OK! Great!... now for the premix specifically, What might you suggest? I see what you're saying as I probably wouldn't throw rp into the tank as it wouldn't burn as well once it gets into combustion with the gas... But The Octane booster I'm gonna keep...
Does lucas make a good 2 stroke? I just want to make sure i've got the BEST for my personal mix. |

No single perfect premix, depends on your goals, budget, and patience for mixing your premix. If you don't have time to read the whole premix thread to learn about the various options and the fine points, I'd recommend starting with Jax_RX-8's excellent posts on the subject.
Two main goals are lubricating the center of the apex seals and preventing carbon build-up. Personally, I really like Jax's observation about the cyclohexanone in FP+ dissolving evil carbon build-up into a beneficial graphite lubricant. I mix about 1.5-2 oz of FP+ with 3.5-4 oz of Idemitsu premix and add it to every fill-up. Idemitsu premix is very popular because it was specially designed for rotary engines. But others prefer the more expensive full synthetic Amsoil Saber Pro, alone or in combination with some type of lubricious cleaner. Others just want a cheaper and simpler one-step approach like MMO. It's been used by rotary owners for a long time with good results, but a few people swear it is pure snake oil. BTW, I think your insistance with using an octane booster is probably misguided and a waste of money. Why not just send your excess money to me and I will perform a mystical ritual of lubrication on your behalf at my local neighborhood tavern? |

u're tryin to mix 4-stroke motor oil into ur gas ?
Im totally speechless. This is the problem with newbs. they never bother to read to learn. if your car pings at 91, u're car has a problem. |
If you can tell a difference between 91 and 93 octane, you are in fact a human dyno.
Or.....you want to believe the octane booster is a super dooper power adder so bad you actually make yourself feel the difference thats not there. We ran 100 octane in one here, it slowed it down compared to 91 octane. (actual tests, not redneck logic) |
Your car is designed to run on 91.
Adding octane booster is stupid. Adding 4 stroke oil into your gas is stupid. Do you expect to create some magic liquid that makes rotaries have 700rwhp and last forever? These engines aren't exactly new, we know what premixes can and can't do, and your attitute toward not wanting to read the existing knowledge, and your insistence on putting octane booster in your gas tank for no reason both impart to us, with good confidence, that you sir, are in fact, a newb... keep talking, and you will transform into a n00b. (two zeroes makes it worse). |
use 5 stroke. It's 1 better than 4.

No... actually... it accellerates better, has less bog time in between shifts... and runs smoother on 93 octane...
It just feels healthier and makes more sense to me. as far as oil... I'm just making sure the best fluids are available. haven't even tried it yet. Why is everyone on this forum so far up their own asses? does it feel good to know everything and make sure everyone else knows it? Sometimes I REALLY wish there were other 8 forums.... |

Premix For premix try Idemitsu Racing Rotary Fuel Lube (Premix) - Synthetic Blend. Mazdatrix sales it, http://www.mazdatrix.com/q-supply.htm It is fairly well priced and it is designed for the rotary. Octane Booster: Have you actualy ran it on 93 octane or are you saying it runs better with 91 plus the booster? The reason I ask is that the octane booster may not actualy be raising the octane and in many cases the it lowers the flash point which might be why your car runs better. If you are on a stock tune then 91 might not even be needed in most cases, so by lowering the flashpoint the car gets better combustion and more power. To recap, if you have never actualy used 93 octane then I suggest you try running on 89 no booster, and see if it runs better then the 91 or the same as the 91 plus booster. I take my car to the track and the first time I went I mixed 91 (12gal) and 100 (4 gal) so my octane was around 93. I was on a stock tune and I found that my power went down. Sence then I went with the AP and a leanier tune. To play it safe I mixed again and it ran the same on 93 as it did on 91 but the 93 was for insurance. Also, it usually takes a lot of octane booster to raise the octane rating even 1 point. Most say 1 bootle equals 1 point but it is for maybe 8 gals of gas so you would need 2 bottles for a complete fill up for 1 point, 4 bottles for 2 points. Gets expensive. |
4 Stroke motor oil is not suppose to mix with gas.
2 Stroke oil is supposed to be mixed with gas. Remember that time you took out the gas weed eater and went to town on your lawn? Remember how you had to mix that oil stuff with the gas? It has a 2 stroke engine, its lubricated by the fuel. 4 stroke motor oil in your gas tank will do bad things to your car. |
And to reiterate:
higher octane does not equal more power or better running engine. You want to run the lowest possible octane without causing your engine to knock. For me that is 89. I get a good 2+ mpg on 89 vs 93 for example. However, if I go to 87, I get a knock. The only fuel additive I've put in my 8 is the BK44 stuff and that's rare (when I first bought her and then every 8000 or so miles) see, more hamsters... and rx8web.com is a cool place. very nice folks there.. but it gets a fraction of the traffic as here. |
I'm actually making the comparison to when I drove up to NW Indiana to visit some old friends gas was 4.50 a gallon for premium (93 octane) but MAN it ran awesome there's a lot of things I miss about that place including the premium gas.

If it truly runs better in NW Indiana it may not have anything to do with the gas, it could be enviromently differences. Look at the science is all I am saying. |
Agreed... I just need to get my car running smoother all together... somethings off... 68k will do that... but... i mean... its healthy... but not quite smooth.

Coils, plugs and wires is usually the fix. If they have more the 20K miles they are likly the problem. If coild plugs and wires are new then try some tunning with the AP from MM |
Man... I want that Access Port So bad... But I'm Just hung up on the price tag....
Lets put it this way... I can't afford an aftermarket intake at this point.... |
