new intake time!! which one hmm..

hihi there, been searching around for which intakes that look good and apparently wont cause rough idles, currently I have the k&n ver 1 which causes rough idles and sometimes even stalls. Was wondering which intake I shoulod switch to, to ensure no rough idles and stalls while retaining that loud intake sound, which i find really cool haha, hope u guys can help, thanks =)

Stock, AEM, RB+ duct. Since you already have the typhoon 1 you are probably missing the little accordian piece. If you get that peice you could go RB or Stock. You could also go AEM so you don't have to get the accordian piece.

Racing Beat and their Ram Air Duct

nycgps 01-10-2008 10:30 AM

Take the Typhoon v 1 away and put your stock back on.

Jasonawojo 01-10-2008 10:35 AM

I like my Mazdaspeed (same as AEM) CAI. It is almost undetectable at idle and light throttle, but very loud at WOT. I haven't really had any trouble with the idle or stalling, and I only used one of the two airflow screens that they sent with it.

RedefineRX8 01-10-2008 10:43 AM

rmagic air filter.

Rx8-13b 01-10-2008 01:18 PM

thanks for the input guys, been looking at the aem or mazdaspeed CAI, i have the mazdaspeed front bumper on, and the intake seems to sit right next to the front mesh, wouldn't it get all wet wen it rains? or does that not affect it at all..thanks guys

bran702 01-10-2008 01:56 PM

I just got HKS Reloaded. what do you guy think of it? I have not installed it yet.

CostasX8 01-10-2008 02:01 PM

I installed the HKS Racing Suction Intake last week.It sounds nice and no problems.
Don`t expect any noticable power improvement btw...

bran702 01-10-2008 02:10 PM

Cool... Than-x

The MS CAI comes with a sock to put over the filter, eliminates any issues with water.

eddiec727 01-10-2008 11:56 PM

well if you guys are interested in getting an hks rs intake, on ebay some guy is selling them for less than $200.

SkyLee 01-11-2008 12:05 AM

i live in Seattle rains all year MS CAI is FINE and i love it!

Rx8-13b 01-17-2008 09:14 PM

hmm, now i think it's the screens that cause the problems, will the AEM CAI come with the 2 screens like the ms cai ? if so i will place an order soon, thanks guys

chancejat 01-17-2008 09:19 PM

This is what I found on one of the ebay's auction :

AEM Cold Air Intake System - 2004 and 2005 Mazda RX8. This AEM Induction systems utilize aluminum piping from the throttle body and drops their cone filter with velocity stack down in the fender/bumper of the vehicle. This separates the filter from the hot engine compartment. The result is your intake system drawing cold air away from the hot air present in the engine compartment. Horsepower gains can be seen by as much as 15 HP's! This is accomplished by gaining 1 HP for each 10F reduced. Complete with everything including all clamps, instructons, manual and hardware guaranteed as you can see in pic. This Intake was on car for less than 4 months and is in almost like new condition. Selling due car being sold
LOL !!!

setsuwa 01-19-2008 03:08 AM

I just installed the RE amemiya intake and I think it works pretty well too.
however I haven't had any experience with any other intake myself tho.

yale02 01-19-2008 08:06 AM

I have the MS and love it!

Fanman 01-20-2008 12:12 AM

I have the RB REVi with the air duct. Works great for me.

Vasichko 01-24-2008 05:10 PM

What I wonder is Im interested in the AEM and I know its the same as the MS. Do you think if you had any issues with your motor that the dealer would be less likely to void you warranty if you had the MS intake?

Jedi54 01-24-2008 05:20 PM

Racing Beat intake with Racing beat Air duct. Looks nice and stealth and works GREAT. (closed box = no sucking in HOT engine bay air)

Me too!

This combination allowed me to pass Evo's and STI's around the corners at the track and stay ahead on the 3/4 mile straight due to heat soaked turbo's at 105 degrees.

Before this mod they would beat me all the time.

Not all EVO's and STI's were beat but a few of them were.

ShAdOwFoX 01-26-2008 08:55 AM

just wondering can the rb ram air duct work with the aem/ms cai or any cai in general or only rb?

Mazurfer 01-26-2008 09:12 AM

Revi box plus the duct.....FTW.

Yes, the duct will work with other intakes, just not sure about the overall efficiency........as it will depend on the intake chosen. The duct comes up to the hole in the frame and that's it, so it would still dump cooler air into the engine bay area.

ShAdOwFoX 01-26-2008 09:44 AM

ok cool thnx mazsurfer :)

Fanman 01-26-2008 08:42 PM

Actually the RB Ram Air Duct WILL NOT work with the AEM/MS air intake. The AEm/MS air intake goes from the throttle body out past the firewall, and ends with the K&N air filter style cone right behind the grill opening in front of the car. The RB air duct goes from that same location all the way up to the opening in the firewall of the engine bay. So, no the RB air duct will not fit (nor is needed) for the AEM/MS intake. It will work with other short ram designs ala the K&N v.2 or HKS, or RB REVi intake box.
