New D-Tune Mag : Power Pages Modding The RX8 : Results

D Tune started modding the RX8 on their Power Pages section. Here are the results :

Baseline : 180 whp, 128 lb.-ft. tq
Racing Beat Single Sided Exhaust : 183 whp, 132 lb.-ft. tq
Racing Beat REVi intake : 190 whp, 134 lb.-ft. tq
Racing Beat Cat Delete Pipe : 196.5, 134 lb.-ft. tq.

Next issue mods = RB flash tune & grounding kit

BigRed 01-11-2008 08:30 PM

cool...nice find :)

turborx8 01-11-2008 08:31 PM

So their intake gives 7 whp and 2 lb-ft tq but their cat delete pipe only gives 6.5 whp and 0 lb-ft tq.

Shocking results to say the least.

BigRed 01-11-2008 08:47 PM

remember that everything opens up more when everything is put together

does anyone know what the difference is in gains between a cat delete pipe and a super cat. I hear it's very little but wonder if anyone has expirence with this.

SiLVeRE8 01-12-2008 05:14 PM

i had the super cat before i switched over to catless. there is definitely a power difference between the two, but difference aint much. all i can say is the numbers that d-tune magazine obtained from the dyno is pretty accurate because i have close to the same parts, but a little more and dynoed a little higher.

tidmutt 01-12-2008 05:51 PM

So they gained 16.5 whp and 6 lb.-ft. tq., seems better than I had expected based on the very pessimistic attitude most people seem to have towards power increases. I realize other cars may achieve higher gains from similar mods, but still, I had been left with the impression that those sorts of changes would gain barely any power and are really for cosmetic reasons and improved sound.

I don't know much about mods, especially for the RX8, beyond what I've read on this forum so I have one question. Can most people realistically feel the difference that 16 whp and small torque increase brings? Would you notice it day, to day compared to a stock RX8?

I wonder how much whp they would have gained on a non modified rx8 that started with 185+ whp? Seems to me the bigger whp NA gains comes from cars that start with less whp.

I can believe it. When I took the mid-pipe out of our RX8 and put the stock cat back in, the dyno showed only a difference of 5WHP & .5WTQ.. Why? :uhh: I dont know, but it did..

scats 01-12-2008 10:24 PM

i am not familiar with d-tune magazine, can somebody post a link?

nycgps 01-12-2008 11:29 PM

hmm,

I have K&N and RB Flash.

I really wonder what my # gonna be like.

I agree Charles, but that what it said! heh. I believe I posted the dyno over in the dyno thread.

my friend called me last night at about 1am to tell me about that mag. I was goin to try and find it today just out of curiosity. I figure a Magaziene is usually unbiasd as far as numbers but then again ... you never know

I made a post about this in media but found this thread and deleted that one. I don't know where the name d-tune came, this is from DSport magazine, I picked up my issue at my local grocery store.

JB_Rotary 01-13-2008 02:40 PM

Article Looking forward to their RB flash results

lol i just went with the flow of typing d-tuned because of the title of the thread. i kinda thought it sounded a little weird... but just didnt notice. but good job on the correction.

waiting for the nay sayers to come flooding in.

Re:

They are doing another test and tune on the RX-8 for RB flash and grounding kit, but that is not going to be next month's issue, but the April issue, next month is going to be test and tune on Evo9 with BPUs.

BUT, next month's issue will have coverage of Sevenstock 10 from September with pics, so be on the look out for that.

9krpmrx8 01-13-2008 10:35 PM

How much money have they spent?

What they have listed is this:

RB Race Muffler: $525
RB REVi Intake System: $336
RB Cat Replacement: $295

Total: $1,156

They were commenting about how good the results were for a NA engine.

+$135 for the Revi Duct = $1291

The biggest issue I have with this read/upgrade comparison so far is that all these torque and HP numbers thrown around are really fairly meaningless without dyno curves; e.g., 15HP extra at say 8500rpm is nice, but 15HP over a good part of the rev range lower down too is far more interesting and useful on track or highway :uhh: maybe dynos are shown in the mag itself?

Can't wait for the RB flash addition, and someone should tell them to add the Mazsport Ignition Solution. I think that pretty much would cover any available useful pnp NA power upgrades for all intents and purposes.

They have the dyno curves in the magazine. You just have to go out and buy it. Getting high horsepower in the low rev range from this car with NA mods are unrealistic. With NA mods on ANY car, on pretty much any motor they accentuate the base engine's power delivery. So if you look at our car's standard dyno, it is still a 9000 RPM engine that delivers power & tq. on the top end. The NA mods only increase that.

Spin9k 02-24-2008 05:30 PM

If you have the curves can you show us?

Fanman 02-24-2008 11:50 PM

Just got a photo on my camera phone of the article, so it is not really a great picture. You would be better off running down to the local bookstore & looking at the mag.
